Warranty Notice
COVERED PRODUCTS
This warranty covers all products manufactured by Hemisphere GPS Inc. (the "Products").

HEMISPHERE GPS INC. LIMITED WARRANTY

Hemisphere GPS Inc. hereby warrants solely to the end purchaser of the Products, subject to the exclusions and procedures set forth herein below, that the Products sold to such end purchaser shall be free, under normal use and maintenance, from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12 months from delivery to such end purchaser. Repairs and replacement components are warranted, subject to the exclusions and procedures set forth below, to be free, under normal use and maintenance, from defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from performance or delivery, or for the balance of the original warranty period, whichever is greater.

PURCHASER'S EXCLUSIVE REMEDY

The end purchaser's exclusive remedy under this warranty shall be limited to the repair or replacement, at the option of Hemisphere GPS, of any defective Products or components thereof. The end user shall notify Hemisphere GPS or a Hemisphere GPS approved service center immediately of any claimed defect. Repairs shall be made through a Hemisphere GPS approved service center only.

EXCLUSIONS
Hemisphere GPS does not warrant damage occurring in transit or due to misuse, abuse, improper installation, neglect, lightning (or other electrical discharge) or fresh/salt water immersion of Products. Repair, modification or service of Hemisphere GPS products by any party other than a Hemisphere GPS approved service center shall render this warranty null and void. Hemisphere GPS does not warrant claims asserted after the end of the warranty period. Hemisphere GPS does not warrant or guarantee the precision or accuracy of positions obtained when using Products. Products are not intended for primary navigation or for use in safety of life applications. The potential accuracy of Products as stated in Hemisphere GPS literature and/or Product specifications serves to provide only an estimate of achievable accuracy based on: Specifications provided by the US Department of Defense for GPS Positioning, DGPS service provider performance specifications.

Hemisphere GPS reserves the right to modify Products without any obligation to notify, supply or install any improvements or alterations to existing Products.

GOVERNING LEGISLATION
To the greatest extent possible, this warranty shall be governed by the laws of the State of Arizona. THE

M3

The M3 is a modular system that features a powerful CPU in a rugged aluminum box. The CPU contains a serial port for each module. Each module of the system connects to the CPU via a specific cable. The system modules that ship with the M3 and connect to the CPU depend on the M3 system youve ordered:

2: Mounting the Components

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before installing any components, it is essential to first plan out your entire installation. You must take into account: cable lengths clearance space power source vehicle structure visibility balance (air installations)

See Chapter 3: Connecting the Cables for a visual overview of how the components are connected in planning your installation locations. Warning! Review all warnings in Chapter 3 before attempting to connect any of the components together using the supplied cables. Connecting cables improperly can damage your system. Provided mounting hardware includes assorted hardware, lightbar brackets, adjustable display mount, and shock absorbers for the CPU.

Warning!
Consider using existing hardware and hardware locations. Avoid drilling holes that may damage other equipment (such as structural frame members, electrical cables, or fluid lines).

You many need to provide additional hardware depending on your particular installation needs.

2: Mounting the Components

CPU
Mounting Location
Mount the CPU in any location inside the vehicle or aircraft that has the necessary room and is sheltered from the elements (for example, in a storage compartment, in the cab, behind the seat, etc.). The CPU must have clearance to be accessible for attaching/ removing cables and for inserting and removing the PCMCIA memory card.

Mounting the CPU

The CPU is mounted differently depending on whether you are installing it in a ground vehicle or an aircraft. The aircraft installation provides for a quick mount kit that allows you to slide the CPU in and out as needed. The ground installation is permanently installed in the vehicle. Warning! Do not mount the CPU vertically! The shock absorbing feet must be mounted to a horizontal surface.

The M3 Quick-Mount Kit (Part Number 710-0028) allows you to quickly and easily remove and re-install the M3 CPU as needed. This kit will fit all existing M3 CPUs.

To install the CPU quick mount (Air): 1. 2. 3. Remove the M3 CPU from the vehicle/aircraft. Remove the 4 shock-absorbing feet from the CPU. Save these along with the hardware to reattach to the mount. Use the M3 Enclosure Drill Template (see Appendix A) to drill 6 holes in the CPU using an electric drill and a 7/32 drill bit. Warning! The holes drilled to install the captive screws must be drilled using the 7/32 drill bit for an exact fit!

Attach the 4 shock-absorbing feet you removed from the CPU to the mount.

Attach feet to 4 outermost corners of mount using screws removed in Step 2.

5. Attach the Male hinges to the mounting plate using 4 #10-32, 5/16 screws and #10 washers.

Attach the Female hinges to the newly drilled holes toward the back end of the M3 CPU using 4 #10-32, 5/16 screws and #10 washers (see picture, above). Note: Make sure the hole on the Female hinge is facing the back end of the CPU (allowing it to slide over the Male hinge when installed).

Slide the M3 onto the mount, with the cable outlets facing the rear of the mount. Slide the Female hinges over the Male hinges.

Note: The M3 rests on top of the two black metal brackets at the front of the mount (the M3 will not slide underneath these 2 brackets). 9. Tighten the captive screws using the Phillips-Head screwdriver.

Ground -

The CPU is installed directly onto the vehicle using the shockabsorbing feet for ground installations.

To install the CPU in a ground vehicle: 1. 2. Attach the 4 shock-absorbing feet to the corners of the CPU. Use the included nickel bolts to mount the assembled CPU to the mounting surface.

DISPLAY SCREEN
The M3 display screen is available in two sizes - an 8.4 display (available in a touchscreen or keypad version) and a 6.4 display available in a keypad version only.

Mounting Location
Mount the display inside the cabin (or cockpit) of the vehicle. The display must be within arms reach and easily visible while driving (or flying). Warning! Do NOT obstruct the view or access to other instruments or the driving (or flying) visibility of the operator.

Mounting the Display Screen

The display screen is available in two sizes. Each size is mounted differently. 8.4 display screen - the 8.4 display is mounted using an adjustable mounting arm - this arm uses two ball and sockets to accommodate all axis installation, allowing more mounting versatility.

6.4 display screen - the 6.4 display can either be mounted with the mounting arm, or mounted directly to the aircraft. The 6.4 display features 4 mounting holes in the corners of the display to mount to the display to the aircraft.

8.4 Screen - To mount the 8.4 display screen: 1. Identify the desired mounting location (see Mounting Location, at the beginning of this section).

Insert bolts through the mounting holes in the round mounting plate to a suitable structure/surface on the vehicle.

Tighten the mechanism with the turn handle when the display is in the desired position.

6.4 Screen - To mount the 6.4 display screen: 1. 2. Identify the desired mounting location (see Mounting Location, at the beginning of this section). Insert the bolts through the mounting holes in the corners of the display to mount to the aircraft.

POWER PANEL
Mounting Location
Mount the power panel inside the cabin (or cockpit) of the vehicle. The power panel must be within arms reach. Warning! Do NOT obstruct the view or access to other instruments or the driving (or flying) visibility of the operator.

The power panel comes with 2 mounting options: option 1 - panel only

Air - To mount the power panel: 1. 2. Find an appropriate location in your cockpit panel to mount the power panel. It must be within easy reach of the pilot. Mount the panel using 4 bolt/nut/washer sets of the appropriate size. (Depending on the desired location and

aircraft type, select the appropriate hardware to attach the power panel to the aircraft.) Note: Mounting hardware is not supplied.

Ground - To mount the power panel mounting box: 1. 2. 3. Find an appropriate location in your cab to mount the power panel box. It must be within easy reach of the driver. Use 4 screws to attach the power panel to the mounting box. Use 2 nut/bolt/washer sets to attach the mounting brackets to the power panel box assembly. (Depending on the desired location and vehicle type, select the appropriate hardware to attach the power panel box.) Note: Mounting hardware is not supplied.

Mount the keypad in the cabin (or cockpit) of the vehicle. It should be within arms reach of the driver or pilot. Warning! Do NOT obstruct the view or access to other instruments or the driving (or flying) visibility of the operator.

To mount the keypad: 1. Mark the mounting locations using the recessed mounting holes on either side of the keypad.

LIGHTBAR

Mounting Location
Mount the lightbar in front of the cabin (or cockpit) at a comfortable viewing distance. The lightbar may be mounted either inside or outside of the cabin (or cockpit). Warning! Do not block the view of the driver (or pilot).

Mounting the Lightbar

The lightbar installation is slightly different depending on whether you are installing it on a ground or air vehicle. Lightbar installations for Air and Ground each come with a Lightbar Mounting Kit that contains the hardware needed to install the lightbar on each type of vehicle.

To mount the Lightbar (Air): 1. Assemble the lightbar mounting brackets. a. Secure the left and right flat panel plates to the lightbar using the enclosed captive screws.

Note: Notice the captive screw holes are offset to the outside edge of the plate. Also notice that the front of the lightbar faces the thin edge of the plate; the rear of the lightbar rests on the thick edge of the plate. Warning! If you have the left and right plates reversed it is still possible to line up the plates so the arrows are pointing outside. However, the screw holes on the lightbar and the flat panel plate will not line up if you have them reversed. b. c. Tighten the captive screws using a 3/16 Allen wrench. Assemble the 2 sets of 1 brackets using the #10-32 x 5/8 bolt, nut, and washer sets. You can substitute the

included 3 brackets for the 1 brackets for added height if needed.

Attach the left and right brackets to the lightbar plates using the 4 #10-32 x 3/4 screw, nut, and washer sets, as shown below.

Using the assembled lightbar and brackets as a template, mark the 4 mounting hole locations on the surface of the aircraft. Using a 1/4 drill bit, carefully drill the 4 holes. Secure the lightbar to the aircraft using the #10-32 bolts, washers, and nuts. Two lengths of bolts are enclosed: 1 3/4 or 3/4 depending on whether you are mounting the lightbar to a thick or a thin mounting surface.

Note: Attach the enclosed backing plates to the underside of the mounting surface for additional reinforcement if desired (see below). The backing plates provide additional support to prevent the bolts from pulling through the surface under vibration.

Ground - The Lightbar Mounting Kit for Ground is Part No. 7100030.

Lightbar V is designed for either a magnetic mount or a traditional permanent mount. The magnetic mount allows you to mount the lightbar on your vehicle without having to drill holes in the structure. It has been field-tested for weather, shock, and vibration and is the recommended installation. For vehicles with a non-metal hood, such as fiberglass, metal disks have been included in your installation kit. The disks are secured to the hood with the enclosed adhesive pads the magnetic mounts then mount securely to the metal disks. Optional permanent mounts are also included in your Lightbar Mounting Kit.

Mount the assembled lightbar and mounting plate to the surface of the vehicle. If mounting to a metal surface, place the magnetic mounts and place on the vehicle in the desired location (in line of sight of the driver). Do not remove the protective adhesive backing on the underside of the mounts these protect your vehicle from scratches. If mounting to a non-metal surface, such as fiberglass, clean and dry the desired mounting location. Note: Always clean mounting surface with alcohol before applying the adhesive. a.Remove the backing adhesive from the magnetic mounts. b.Remove the adhesive backings from one side of the enclosed adhesive pads and attach them to the metal disks.

c.Place the metal disks (metal side up) on the magnetic mounts. (The magnetic mounts will sit on the metal disks when installed. The metal disks will then be attached to your vehicle with the adhesive pads.) d.Remove the remaining adhesive backing from the other side of the metal disks. e.Place the assembled lightbar in the desired mounting location you cleaned and dried.

Permanent Mounts - To mount the Lightbar using permanent mounts (Ground): 1. 2. 3. 4. Follow Steps 1-4 of Mounting the Lightbar Magnetic Mounts. Using the lightbar brackets as a guide, mark the desired mounting location on the vehicle. Carefully use a 1/4 drill bit to drill the 4 mounting holes. Place the rubber pads on the bottom of the lightbar mount the flat side of the mounts should face the vehicle and the holes should be lined up with the holes on the mounting bracket feet. Place the assembled lightbar and mounting bracket, holding the rubber pads in position, over the mounting holes you drilled. Secure the lightbar to the vehicle using the #10-32 bolts and nuts. Note: Attach the enclosed backing plates to the underside of the mounting surface for additional reinforcement if desired (see below). The backing plates provide additional support to prevent the bolts from pulling through the surface under vibration.

To mount the SLXg3 receiver: 1. Attach the receiver mounting brackets to the receiver using the included mounting kit.

Reminder! The positions that the SLX receiver calculates are at the position of the antenna. So, if using a swath guidance system, place the antenna at the vehicle center line.

Mounting the Antenna

The SLXg3 Antenna comes with an Antenna Mounting Kit (Part Number 710-0002).

The antenna kit includes: 2 mounting options - a magnetic mounting plate and a boltdown mounting plate. For Air installations, use the bolt-down mounting plate. For Ground installations, you can use either mounting option, depending on your application. Warning! Do not use the magnetic mounting plate for air applications. a 3 extension post that makes room for the antenna cable connection on the mounting surface.

To mount the antenna: 1. Mount the antenna to the mounting plate using 4 #8-32 bolts that are 1/4 in length and 4 #8 star washers. The following picture shows the 4 mounting holes:

Screw the extension post into the socket of the mounting plate. Use a 1/4 bolt to attach either the magnetic or bolt-down bottom plate to the bottom of the post. If using the bolt-down plate, attach the plate to the mounting surface through drilled holes that are 13/64 in diameter. Use star washers and nyloc nuts to secure the installation.

General Cable Connection Warnings

Warning! Turn off power before connecting or disconnecting cables. Failing to do so can damage the system. Finger-tighten all cable connections. Do NOT use any tools.

Do not route cables alongside power generator wire and other high-noise electric sources. This will cause interference. Do not kink or force cables into sharp bands. This will destroy the cable. Excess cable length should be stored with at least a 6-inch bend radius. Do not coil the cables. This will introduce noise in the system. Avoid high-temperature exposure (exhaust, manifold, etc.) when routing cables.

Antenna Cable Warning

Warning! Never connect or disconnect the antenna cable with the power on.

Do not route the antenna cable with any other radio system cables. This will cause interference. Keep 12 inches apart. If you must cross the antenna cable with others, do so at a 90-degree angle. This will prevent interference between systems.

CONNECTING CABLES
Each cable in the M3 system connects on one end to the CPU and on the opposite end to the modular component (e.g., receiver, touchscreen, peripheral device, etc.). Each cable is marked with a white band that labels the name and part number of the cable. Each serial port on the CPU is designed to fit only one type of cable - this makes it impossible to connect a cable to the incorrect serial port. Line up a connector with the matching pins on the serial port and gently insert and turn. Never force a connection. Warning! Finger-tighten all connections. DO NOT use any power tools.

GPIO Cable
The GPIO cable includes several individual cables: the Spray On/Off switch, the Swath Advance switch, and the serial port.

- To connect the GPIO cable (keypad version only): 1. 2. Connect the black Conxall connector end of cable Part Number 054-0054 to the CPU serial port labeled, GPIO. Notice that the GPIO cable actually consists of 3 cables bundled together - the Spray On/Off switch, the Swath Advance switch, and the serial port. Lightbar Cable
To connect the Lightbar cable: 1. 2. Connect the black Conxall connector of the Lightbar cable, Part Number 051-0022, to the CPU serial port labeled, Lightbar. Connect the metal Bendix connector on the Lightbar cable to the matching connector on the back of the Lightbar.

To connect the antenna cable (antenna-receiver): 1. Connect the smaller metal connector of the Antenna cable, Part Number 050-0026, to the matching connector on the SLXg3 receiver. Connect the larger metal connector of the Antenna cable to the matching connector on the bottom of the antenna.

Connect the metal Bendix connector on the Keypad cable to the matching connector on the keypad. Note: The Keypad serial port on the CPU may also be used for the optional Keyboard/Mouse Adapter cable. Make sure the power is off and then switch cables.

Keyboard/Mouse Adapter Cable

The Keypad/Mouse Adapter cable may be switched with the Keypad cable (if using the Keypad version - if using the Touchscreen version, the Keypad serial port on the CPU should already be open). See Keypad Cable connection instructions above. The Keyboard/ Mouse Adapter Cable is Part Number 051-0027.

VRC/COM 1
The VRC/COM 1 cable connection allows the use of a flow control or other peripheral device to be used through the COM 1 data port. You can also use this port to link to another computer through a serial cable. The VRC/COM 1 adapter cable that comes with the system connects to the CPU and features a 9-pin RS-232 serial cable connector on the other end.

To connect the VRC/COM 1 cable: 1. Connect the black Conxall connector on cable Part Number 051-0030 to the serial port on the CPU labeled, VRC/COM 1.

Keypad Version - In the keypad version, the power cable is a stand-alone cable.

To connect the power cable: 1. Connect the black Conxall connector end of cable Part Number 054-0050 (Air) or 054-1033 (Ground) to the CPU serial port labeled, Power. Connect the other end of the cable to the power connector on the power panel.

POWER SOURCE

The M3 features a circuit breaker to prevent voltage spikes and reverse polarity from damaging the system. The power cable has a black Conxall connector on one end and red and black power leads on the other. You must supply a power source (vehicle battery, generator, etc.). Please read the warnings in this section carefully before connecting a power source.

To connect the power panel to a power supply source: Connect the power leads on the other end of the Power cable to the appropriate power supply. The power supply must be between 10 and 36 Volts (vehicle battery, generator, other). Warning! Do NOT connect to a power source of less than 10 Volts. Do NOT use a cigarette lighter as a permanent power source. Do NOT reverse the polarity of the power leads - incorrect installation can damage the system. Connect RED to POSITIVE (+) and BLACK to NEGATIVE (-).

Warning! (Air Installation) A potential problem when installing an electronic system in a vehicle is Counter Electromagnetic Force (CEMF). CEMF is caused when relays or solenoids connected to the common vehicle DC power bus are de-energized. The voltage produced may exceed 400 volts. CEMF can be produced by equipment such as: Electric fan brakes Air conditioners Starter relays Electric pump relays

To eliminate CEMF, install diodes at the relays and solenoids that cause the CEMF and at the power supply cable connection of the SLX system. Use a 47 Volt, 5 Watt Zener Diode (1N5368 or equivalent).

Now that the system is completely installed and connected, you are ready to turn on the system and configure the component settings. This chapter covers how to insert/remove the memory card, how to turn the system on/off, how to adjust brightness settings on the keypad and display screen, and how to calibrate your touchscreen (optional) should it become necessary.

INSERTING AND REMOVING MEMORY CARD

THE

The M3 system comes with a 32 MB PCMCIA memory card for storing data during use. The memory card is inserted into the M3 CPU on the side opposite the cable connections. Warning! You must insert the memory card in the CPU BEFORE turning the system on. If there is no card in the system, it may not initialize the removable media drive.

To insert/remove the memory card: 1. Unscrew the two screws on either side of the plastic cover covering the card slot at the end of the CPU opposite the cable connections. Pull open the door to the card slot (it hinges at the bottom). Line up the card with the slot. Make sure the side that shows 32 MB is facing up. Insert the card. Screw the screws back into the CPU. Turn on your system.

Note: If your system is not recognizing the card, turn off the system, insert a card and restart the system. Once the system is booted up, you are free to insert and remove the card as desired.

TURNING

SYSTEM ON

To turn on the M3 system: Turn on the main power source (vehicle battery, generator, etc.) and switch the power switch on. This powers up all components except for the touchscreen display. Press the Power button on the front of the display.

The SwathStar M3 display will boot up into Windows. It will also give you the choice, prior to loading Windows, to go to DOS, if desired. The AirStar M3 display will boot up and start the AirStar M3 software. It does not boot to Windows. The AirTrac M3 display will boot up and start the Windows AirTrac software.

Reference the documentation for the software that you intend to use for instructions on how to operate the different software features.

To change the brightness of the M3 Display (on both the 8.4 and 6.4 versions): Press and hold the brightness adjustment level buttons on the front of the display screen.

The touchscreen display is shipped with the touchscreen properly calibrated. Touchscreen calibration ensures that the cursor is placed exactly under your finger when you touch the screen. In the event that you do need to re-calibrate the touchscreen, you can do so. Note: The M3 Display does not allow touchscreen use in DOS. This is a Windows-only touchscreen.

To calibrate the touchscreen (Windows only): 1. 2. 3. Select the ELO icon on the Windows desktop. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration. Press OK when done to close the window and have the changes take effect.

The lightbar and keypad brightness can be adjusted for night operation. The Power switch on the keypad of the non-touchscreen M3 is not functional. The keypad will only power on and off with the rest of the system from a main power switch. However, the keypad power switch must remain in the ON position during boot up.

Lightbar
Touchscreen - To adjust the Lightbars brightness (Touchscreen Version): Turn the lightbar dimmer control knob on the M3 power panel. You can adjust the brightness to completely dark to very bright.

Keypad - To adjust the Lightbars brightness (Keypad Version): Turn the lightbar dimmer control knob on the keypad labeled, Lightbar.

Shutting Down from Windows

Before turning off the display or the main power source, it is important to shut down Windows.

To shut down Windows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Press the Start button in the lower left hand corner of the Windows screen. Press Shut Down Highlight the Shut Down choice and then press OK. Wait until you see the message, Its now safe to turn off your computer. Shut down power to the display, by pressing the Power button. Turn off system power.

Shutting Down from DOS

It is OK to turn the power off at any time from DOS. The only caution is that data can be lost if the application is currently saving or writing data when you cut the power. The best choice is to terminate the application you are running and then shutting off the power. For the AirStar M3 software, press , CLEAR, ENTER to exit to the DOS prompt. Shut down power to the display by pressing the POWER button on the display, and then shut off system power.
