Scope of Work: a b c d e All associated civil works Any item not specifically described herein and required for complete operation of the plant. Consumables such as spare parts (for two years of operation) Contractor shall provide water, power, chemicals, lubricants and fuel during construction, commissioning and guarantee period. The contractor shall be responsible for design, supply, delivery to site, installation, testing supervision and commissioning of the sewage treatment plant

C.

Process Description 1. The raw sewage flow shall be discharged freely into the lift station. The lift station will also act as a break tank (i.e. it will store any excess sewage during periods when the flow from the sewer exceeds the maximum design flow to the sewage treatment plant). Submersible grinding sewage pumps in the lift station shall be actuated by level switches and deliver the sewage to the extended aeration plant, which is located above ground. The pumped flow of raw sewage arrives at the extended aeration plant via the comminutor/bar screen arrangement, which shreds and holds debris that otherwise may cause blockages. The bar screen is housed in the bar screen box. The screened sewage discharges into the aeration chamber where it is mixed with recycled activated sludge (a mixture of natural aerobic microorganisms). For purification to proceed the mixture must be agitated to prevent settlement and aerated to supply oxygen for the respiration of the micro-organisms. Both agitation and oxygen are provided by the aeration system comprising air blowers delivering via an air manifold to diffusers, which release the air near the floor of the aeration chamber. The micro-organisms remove the organic materials from the sewage and multiply to greater numbers. This increase in number of micro-organisms results in excess activated sludge which requires occasional disposal. When biological reaction is complete the mixed liquor flows to the settlement chamber where the velocity is reduced by baffles and the activated sludge separated from the secondary effluent during a period of quiescent settlement. The secondary effluent discharges from the plant via an over flow weir, and part of the settled sludge is pumped back to the aeration chamber to treat more sewage where the balance is wasted. The overflow of secondary effluent from the extended aeration plant discharges into the chlorine contact / break tank where it meets a controlled dose of sodium hypochlorite solution. The sodium hypochlorite solution is drawn from the hypochlorite storage tank by hypochlorite

dosing pump of adjustable delivery rate. 8. Level switches in the chlorine contact / break tank actuate filter feed pumps which deliver the disinfected secondary effluent to the tertiary filters through graded sand media. The tertiary effluent from the filters passes on to the treated effluent irrigation tank. As solids accumulate in the sand bed the pressure loss through the media rises and periodically reaches a value above which the plant will not function as designed. At this time the filter requires to be washed clear of accumulated solids. The filter begins with a short period of air scour when the air is delivered by the same blowers that supply the extended aeration plant. During air scour the accumulated solids are shaken free of the sand media by high turbulence. The media is then backwashed by a controlled flow of tertiary effluent delivered from the tertiary treated effluent storage tank by the filter feed pumps. The backwash water passes up through the sand media, flushing out the accumulated solids and the resulting spent backwash water is returned to the lift station. Backwashing is manually controlled. The wasted sludge from the settlement tank will be collected in a sludge holding tank in which further digestion of the sludge takes place by means of air supplied by the same air blowers used for aeration and air scouring tank. The digested sludge shall be hold by trucks (by others).
