Attention Getter- Print is dead-This clich phrase echoes throughout the print industry, and has now for a few years. II. Thesis Statement- Since new technology has come about print media has been on a downward spiral, but after the recession started print media slowed down to a crawl and now it is about to enter into the digital age. III. Preview of Main Points: Books, magazines, and newspapers make up just about the whole genre of print media and these medias are slowly changing. A. First Main Point- How print media is dying. B. Second Main Point- How print media is changing. C. Third Main Point- How print media dying is affecting people. Body: I. First Main Point- Why is Print Media dying? A. Subpoint- Circulation is down 1. Circulation went down 30% last year (statistic) B. Subpoint- Advertisers are taking their business elsewhere 1. Better advertising opportunities 2. Online spending will rise 9.6% while print spending will fall 3% (statistic) 3. As they emerge from the recession, they need more accountability, and theyre spreading their spending over a widening set of options. (quote) C. Subpoint- Technology

1. People can find the same information on a phone or a computer 2. There are advantages 3. Lowers the cost of production D. Subpoint- Craigslist 1. Offered people to place classifieds for free Transition-Even though print media will no longer be what it use to, it is changing and becoming more modernized II. Second Main Point- Print media is moving from paper and ink to a hand held digital device. A. Subpoint- Different kinds of new technology have been created 1. E-books like the kindle, and nook (examples) 2. iPads and iPhones that apps (examples) B. Subpoint- Digital devices are becoming increasingly more popular 1. It makes it easier to participate in multimedia 2. Multimedia-making use of several types of information in one publication (quote) 3. Media companies believe that in the future all of their products will be sent to the audience through one device Transition- Print media is changing and with it are the jobs that people do III. Third Main Point- The down fall of Print Media is causing people to lose their jobs, but creating new ones. A. Subpoint-Journalists are losing their jobs because of the demand for print has decreased. 1. Jobs are being cut due to the fact that online there is an endless amount space to write in 2. In 2008 53% of all media jobs were held by print media employees (statistic)

3. Employment is expected to decline 6% by 2018 (statistic) 4. It easier for reporters to put more detail and information into a story without having to worry about anything being cut out 5. Online sites can put real live footage on the website instead of just pictures 6. Theyre not helping themselves by whacking sections and laying people off, he says. Theyre cutting the things that people look for in newspapers. (quote) B. Subpoint- New jobs/positions are being created with the new technology that is coming out 1. There will be more jobs with small businesses and online newspapers and magazines C. Subpoint- People who are creating their own websites and blogs are being offered jobs 1. The newer generation that already knows how to navigate the internet and a computer are the ones in line for the new jobs Signpost- Print media will forever be a very important part of American history, and that wont ever change, but people are calling for a media revolution. Conclusion: I. Restate Thesis- Print media may be dying, but it is not disappearing, it is just changing and moving forward. II. Review Three Main Points: A. How print media is dying. B. How print media is changing. C. How print media is affecting people. III. Clincher- Looking into the future often requires a look into the past and present. And according to Kim Long, the more things change, the more they stay the same. (quote)
