Man falls to death from 1st floor
A 55-year-old man lost his life after he fell from the first floor of a school building in Jogeshwari (West), where the annual meeting of his society was going on. According to PI Nutan Pawar of Amboli police station, Shantanu Manjrekar lived in Laxmi Society behind MVM School. The society holds its annual meeting in the school hall. Manjrekar, who as standing near the railing, slipped and fell headfirst. He died while being taken to the hospital due to heavy blood loss. We have registered a case of accidental death, said Pawar.

A WATCHMAN working at an under-construction building in Borivli (East) was arrested by Kasturba police for killing a history sheeter who, along with two others, tried to rob scrap material from the site. The deceased has been identified as Rajesh alias Nagpurya Patel (21), who was released from the jail just five days ago. Patel has five cases registered against at Kasturba police station, out of which four are of house breaking and one regarding a motor vehicle theft. Accused Suresh Bijlani still at large

Sources say that Suresh Bijlani was present at the Vashi Crime Branch office in February but police failed to nab him

SURESH Bijlani, an accused in the Lahoria murder case, is still at large and according to sources was last seen at the Vashi crime branch office on February 18, two days after the FIR was filed by Sunny Lahoria for the murder of his father Sunil Lahoria. According to cops, Bijlanis phone is not traceable since then. A source said, When Vashi Crime Branch officers where asked about Bijlanis whereabouts, they claimed they tried to arrest him but he escaped. Sumit Bacchewar. Police officials have been regularly visiting Bijlanis residence since then. They have also visited several places across Maharashtra after receiving tip-offs. Officials also laid a trap in Navi Mumbai last week after they got a tip-off that Bijlani was in Navi Mumbai to meet his friend. However, senior police inspector Sanjay Kamble of Vashi Crime Branch claimed he has no clue whether Bijlani was present in the Crime Branch Vashi unit on February 18.

BAIL REJECTED
On May 13, this year, the Supreme Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Navi Mumbai-based builder Jawahar Chelaram Bijlani alias Suresh. The Thane session Court and Bombay High Court had also earlier rejected his plea.

AFTER a car carrying illegal alcohol mowed down a senior citizen in Borivli on Friday, the MHB police station officials have finally made some progress in the case. According to the officials, the CCTV footage clearly shows that the car (Fiat Palio) was being chased by another car that belonged to the Excise Department. The police officials have not passed on a notice to the department as they are waiting for the arrests of the two accused in the case. This incident raises serious questions on excise department as instead of calling the local police after the accident, they chose to flee from the spot. The case was finally registered at MHB police station. On Friday morning at around 4, Dahisar-based hotelier Rakesh Shetty (26) saw a Fiat Palio being chased by a Tata Sumo with yellow beacon on top. Samaritan Shetty chased both the cars in his Ford Endeavour, as he was curious about the turn of events. At Sudhir Phadke Bridge (off Bhagwati hospital) the Sumo managed to inter-

cept the Palio, which was allegedly occupied by two bootleggers. Shetty, the complainant and the prime eyewitness in the case, saw the car (Palio) bang into the divider. A man who was near the divider was run over by the car and lost his life. Identity of the victim still remains unknown, as no one has claimed his body yet. Shetty who informed the cops said, It was dawn and school children were on their way to school by this time. They were scared to see a body lying in a pool of blood. Thats probably when the cops decided to move the body. The body was moved from the spot after more than two hours of the accident. A senior IPS officer has initiated department inquiry and the night inspectors of all three police stations have been summoned for questioning. DCP Mahesh Patil of zone 11 said, The accused will be nabbed soon, we have leads in the case. The car, which was chasing the bootleggers car, may belong to the excise department. We will first arrest the accused and interrogate him properly only then we will be able to get a clear picture of what happened that night. The MHB police will investigate the matter. Sources from the police station said that one of the accused has been identified as Poojari. The police officials had recovered 900 litres of alcohol kept inside truck tyres from the car.
