Seminar 1 - Imperatives for Every Business
Each idea operates at three levels: Personal; Team and Strategic. You will see
the connection between how an individual operates; how team performance
improves and the impact the shared idea has on the ability of an organization to
carry out its strategy. There is a clear connection with turning values into action
throughout the business.
This seminar is the foundation for all future exploration on the “Governing
Change” program. The reason things go wrong in business can always be traced
back to an absence of one or more simple, yet vital, fundamentals.
The themes and ideas on each day are mostly known, not widely understood.
When you close the gap between knowledge and understanding it is possible to
effect change more powerfully and with more security. The program makes
connections where none existed, enabling new decisions and approaches.
Agenda
The theme running through the day is challenging existing thinking and releasing
huge untapped potential in creativity and motivation. When people feel that they
are part of something, their level of commitment and willingness to respond is
enormous.
The day explores the practical side of engaging people more fully through
feedback, involvement and alignment with strategy.
Throughout the program work is done to develop our own personal influence.
This day also incorporates the way in which we deal with criticism, expectations
not being met and how we conduct ourselves in a conflict situation. This aspect
of personal engagement, especially at senior levels of an organization, strongly
influences creativity and flexibility throughout a business.

You are now tasked with putting into practice the ideas and solutions from this
seminar. The key areas under evaluation are releasing more creativity
throughout the business; looking for more impact from appraisal and generating
higher levels of confidence and commitment through your feedback.
The focus for the third seminar is Leadership. It explores the way in which
leadership becomes recognizable, day-to-day, at every level of an organization.
A large part of your role revolves around creating an environment where others
can excel. The seminar covers practical areas that help achieve this.
The 4 Principles of Leadership provide the backcloth for the content on this day.
These principles are timeless. You can find reference to them in books dating
back centuries. The challenge when referencing principles and values is, always,
turning them into action.
We explore archetypal business situations that put our leadership to the test and
that allow us to demonstrate those leadership principles. Every successful
organization needs leaders at every level. This seminar shows how leaders act
and where others around you can improve.
A clear picture emerges of where the business can strengthen its leadership
impact.

As a result of this seminar you will come away with a clear picture of where your
firm can benefit by applying more consciously the 4 Principles of Leadership. You
will strongly distinguish between management behavior and leadership behavior,
allowing you to ask for more from your people. By applying ideas from this
seminar it is possible to reduce meeting time over a year by up to 25%.
Influence is the quality all leaders and managers need to cultivate above others.
The great industrialist, Rockefeller, once said “I would pay someone ten times
the salary if they can influence people who are cleverer than they are.”
Entering the second half of the program we start to focus more on managing
attitude. Seminar 4 explores the challenges associated with influencing
performance improvement and also maintaining focus and commitment when
you have to disappoint someone.
The day also explores our ability to influence those over whom we have no
authority. We test our ability to be persuasive with customers and convincing to
our superiors.

The practical ideas from this seminar are geared to generating a shift or change
in others. Realigning performance, persuading individuals or groups to a new
course of action and gaining buy-in from above, are the key areas to work on.
The personal insights taken from this day are connected to the strategic compass
of a business, such as, results and values-driven, future oriented, solutions
based.
The day also explores key areas that test our own ability to be flexible and
secure positive results. Preparing the business for future challenges comes
under review through a comprehensive examination of the recruitment process
and sound interviewing skills.

What you do today will influence tomorrow. Managing the future is determined by
how we are managing ourselves, our people and our organization, in the present.
By creating the right environment, growing a strong organizational culture and
exhibiting positive leadership, it is possible to spend more time looking forwards
than down or backwards.
On this final day we explore the root of attitudes that hold people and businesses
back. We examine approaches to releasing people from the past and managing
their fear of the future. At the heart of this study lies the key to generating an
open, future-oriented culture.
The seminar brings together all the elements of this development program and
establishes the overarching strategic context for everything covered in the
syllabus. It underlines the impact good management practice can have on results
and reputation. The biggest impact is that people will know how they generated
their success.

The delegates will leave with one of the most comprehensive frameworks for
good management practice available. They will understand more about
