Fr. Agnel Ashram

The Agnel Ashram Fathers, are well known all over the country for imparting Technical Education in the service of the Nation and their undaunted efforts for National Integration. Fr. Agnel Ashram was founded by the late Rev. Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues on 09.06.1957, with the aim of fostering, through Educational & Charitable Institutions, love and understanding among the people of different communities of India, contributing towards Indias development and self reliance of its people, with a view of bringing prosperity to the Nation. It is situated in Bandra, Mumbai. It is also a centre of Devotion of Venerable Fr. Agnel, whose relics are preserved and venerated in an artistic Cenotaph. Fr. Agnel Jayanti and Punyatithi are celebrated on 21 January & 20 November respectively. Soon after the foundation of the Ashram in Bandra in 1957, an Orphanage, Fr. Agnel Balbhavan was opened with a view to sheltering and educating orphans and destitute of all castes, creeds and communities. Though it started only with 12 boys, it has blossomed now into a home accommodating over 100 orphans. These orphans who have no sense of direction are given education and technical training as per their capacity, to become skilled workers so that they could stand on their own legs and earn their livelihood. During the last 55 years of its existence, it has enabled these orphaned boys who otherwise would have been derelicts of the society to become useful and respectable citizens of our Country. A large number of these boys who have taken shelter in the Ashram and studied there have been employed in the Country and abroad, especially in the Gulf countries. There is a huge campus at SFX Pune which comprises of Balbhavan situated in a New Building which has residential facility for around 50 orphans and children of broken families and Vidyankur, a School with a capacity of more than 1800 students, who mostly come from economically weaker strata of Society. Here the orphans are weaned away from the painful past into a positive, constructive present and a future full of possibilities, opportunities and hope. It lays the part of a foster home, with more attentiveness to the holistic growth, education and development of the children, making them capable of a proactive life in Society. The Balbhavan (childrens home) which had 12 boys in the age group of 7 to 12 years in the year 1999, has at present 25 boys staying in it. The Vidyankur School Building Project which was completed

in the year 2011 besides imparting holistic education to other students of the surrounding areas would also benefit the orphans by developing mental, social and spiritual faculties of the child and helping them to grow into a strong, upright, honest adult with concern and compassion for his fellow being.
