Background Grant Cherry was born in Tucson, AZ on December 22, 1995. At age 8, he started playing the drums and at age 12, he bought his first digital piano. He started taking classical piano lessons and soon realized that his interest lies with jazz. He started private lessons for jazz theory with professional saxophonist Brice Winston, Grants instructor at the University of Arizona Jazzwerx program. After one year, Winston advised Grants parents to invest in a real piano. At 13, Grant was offered his first paying gig for a private party and has been a working professional on Tucsons jazz scene ever since.
