GEOMETRY Year Level: HS 3 Lesson Topic: Length of Lesson:

George L. Lim Right Triangles 3 weeks

Stage 1 - Desired Results 1. Students use the Pythagorean Theorem and the trigonometric ratios to find unknown lengths and angle measures in diagrams and real world scenarios involving angles of elevation, angles of depression, and vectors.

(This Lesson is deleted. Place under Trigonometry )

Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence

Understanding(s)/goals: Students will understand: * that Pythagorean Theorem and Trigonometric ratios are useful tools in measuring distances. Essential Question(s): * In what way can large distances be measured?

Student will know * the Pythagorean Theorem * Trigonometric ratios * special right triangles

Student will be able to * state and apply the relationships that exist when the altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right triangle. * state and apply the Pythagorean theorem, its converse, and related theorems about obtuse and acute triangles. * state and apply the relationships in special right triangles. * define and compute the sine, cosine, and tangent ratios for an acute angle.

Performance Task(s):

Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence Other Evidence: Oral report in class of the results of the performance task. Seatwork/Homework

Group Activity 1 Page 342 Application: Astronomy Have students work in groups to answer the five question in relation to the application of trigonometric ratios in astronomy.
