Chico tree is common in the Philippines but bears seasonally; it grows everywhere even at your backyard. Its leaves are usually ignored by the farmers since it has no important value, while some make use of the leaves for ornamental purposes. Chico leaves are one of the most ignored yet have significant value in the field of medicine. Eucalyptus deglupta on the other hand; a tall tree, commonly known as the Rainbow Eucalyptus, the Mindanao Gum or the Bagras in the Philippines is also known to have pharmaceutical importance. It is usually converted into papers and carved for ornamental design, due to its tall and soft trunk. The proponents further investigate the uses of both plant and found that its leaves have medicinal used, one of those is anticarcinogenic which was conducted by the researchers using Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) Assay. The proponents bought 30 duck eggs from a professional breeder, quickly after, the duck eggs were incubated for 10 days. While the proponents were waiting for the eggs to hatch, the proponent prepared the bagras leaves and chico leaves; soaked it in Methanol to get the extract. To finish the extraction process the proponents used the rotary evaporator to remove the alcohol. Quickly thereafter, the proponents prepared five treatments design, bagras extract, chico extract, combined extract, positive control (Simvastatin) and a negative control (water). Then, filter papers were soaked on each treatments and placed on the CAM layer of the egg. The eggs were then quickly sealed and incubated for another 48 hours. After the incubation the blood vessels of the treated eggs were observed under a microscope and compared to the control unit. The antibacterial screening,of each treatment, showed a zone of inhibition in both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. And, the phytochemical screening showed that bagras is positive for Saponins, Alkaloids, Leucoanthocyanins and Tannins; on the other hand, the extract is negative for Unsaturated Steroids and Flavonoids. For Chico, it is positive for Alkaloids, Unsaturated Sterols, Flavonoids, Leucoanthocyanin and Tannins; only negative to Saponins. The anti-angiogenic screening of Bagras extract, Chico Extract and the combined extract showed a significant result in decreasing the number of blood vessels in the embryo of the duck egg based on the rejection of the null hypothesis in the analysis of variance. Thus, the proponents concluded that the methanol extract of Bagras(Eucalyptus deglupta) and Chico, as well as the combination of the extracts have antibacterial, anti-angiogenic and contains secondary metabolites; therefore can be used as a much cheaper alternative to commercial medicine.
