Colombia is a country often defined by its archetypes, pop culture icons and armed conflict. This partial understanding conceals many of its other facets and dimensions. Just in the academic year between 2011 and 2012, 250 3 Colombians came to the Netherlands to further developed their studies and professional carriers, many of them devoting their time researching important issues that add to the scientific production of Colombia and contribute to the social, political and economic processes of the country. Yet, little is known about these research projects, researchers, and of their findings. This first Academic Expo 2013 aims to create a space to share original research pieces about Colombia from scholars and students who are or have been enrolled in Dutch academic institutions. REDH would like to invite Master students and PhDs that are currently advanced or have finished their research projects in the Netherlands, as well as professors from Dutch universities, to participate in the Expo under the title: Lo que nos Une es Colombia: Un pas ms all del Conflicto. This Expo will take place in the Netherlands in October 2013.
REDH Colombia is an open space for academic reflection of the knowledge that is produced, created and co-created by Colombians and friends of Colombia in the Netherlands. It connects their ideas throughout interdisciplinary dialogues and facilitates synergies among them with the only objective of making a positive impact in Colombia. By identifying and making both visible and accessible the knowledge production on issues of importance for Colombia, and by encouraging exchange and synergies among different actors, REDH hopes to contribute to the learning and development of a mutual dialogue from academic practice and debate within and between both countries.

Call for Abstracts Scholars and students enrolled or graduated from Dutch Institutions are invited to submit an abstract of their current or finished work. The research topic should be related to Colombia and has to be relevant to any particular field of study in order to facilitate the construction of trans-continental bridges of knowledge. Interested candidates should submit an abstract of no more than 350 words. In addition, those students/scholars that work with portfolios (i.e. architects, engineers or designers) can send a sample of their work. To be considered for selection, the text must be in English and should clearly state:

The accepted proposals will be announced by 16 September 2013. The selected authors will receive a Power Point document in A2 format with clear instructions on how to arrange the texts and images into a poster for the EXPO. The poster will be printed (without charge to the presenter) for display by the organizing committee. In addition, selected authors will be invited to submit a 1,500 words extended abstract together with the posters that, with their consent, will be uploaded in REDHs website.
