Question: "Why did God require animal sacrifices in the Old Testament?" Yes, why did he? Answer: God required animal sacrifices to provide a temporary covering of sins How does the killing of an animal cover sin? Youre not getting off to a good start here. One might think that Judaism and Christianity were based on an animal-sacrifice cult, ha ha, ha, uh ha, hummm...oh wait. and to foreshadow the perfect and complete sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (Leviticus 4:35, 5:10) God is going to sacrifice a human? Um, youre really not going in the right direction now. Dare I read more? Animal sacrifice is an important theme found throughout Scripture because without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (Hebrews 9:22). What the hell! When Adam and Eve sinned, animals were killed by God to provide clothing for them (Genesis 3:21). Couldnt they have just asked God for some clothing? Sorry, little dove, Im going to have to slit your throat, I mean I need shoes! Cain and Abel brought sacrifices to the Lord. Cain's was unacceptable because he brought fruit So Gods not a vegetarian, okayyyy..., while Abel's was acceptable because it was the firstborn of his flock (Genesis 4:4-5). Oh well that makes total sense - an animal of your flock finally gives birth for the first time and you kill her kid...cool. After the flood receded, Noah sacrificed animals to God (Genesis 8:20-21). What the fuck does God need with dead animals!!!! What? God commanded the nation of Israel to perform numerous sacrifices according to certain procedures prescribed by God. Are you telling me that the creator of the universe prescribed how he wanted animals to be killed? Doesnt he have better things to do...like make sure the planets spin correctly or regulate solar flares? First, the animal had to be spotless. Oh well sure, omnipotent deities haaaaaate spots! Second, the person offering
the sacrifice had to identify with the animal. Say what? Third, the person offering the animal had to inflict death upon it. God is love. When done in faith, this sacrifice provided a temporary covering of sins. Why?! This makes no sense. An omnipotent, omniscient deity requires an animal to die to cover sin. This god can simply ask his people to say Im sorry and perform a community service. Nope, says God, I need me some BLOOD! Another sacrifice called for on the Day of Atonement, described in Leviticus 16, demonstrates forgiveness and the removal of sin. The high priest was to take two male goats for a sin offering. One of the goats was sacrificed as a sin offering for the people of Israel (Leviticus 16:15) This is just getting creepy., while the other goat was released into the wilderness (Leviticus 16:20-22). The sin offering provided forgiveness, while the other goat provided the removal of sin. So a bunch of barbaric primitives thought they could get rid of their guilt by magically putting it into an animal and then killing the animal and this is the basis for the most-practiced religion on earth???????? Why, then, do we no longer offer animal sacrifices today? Good fucking question! Animal sacrifices have ended because Jesus Christ was the ultimate and perfect sacrifice. Oh well shit...awesome. John the Baptist recognized this when he saw Jesus coming to be baptized and said, Look, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29). Why the fuck does a human being or a zebra or even a fucking lobster or a hyena have to die???? Forgive the damn sin. Done. No animal has to die. No person has to die. Why so much death? Youre fucking God; you can do anything you want. Say you have to hum the national anthem bacwards to forgive sin. You have to make 15 free throws in a row to forgive sin. You have to bone at least 4 fat chicks as a penance for sin, and hot girls need to blow 10 or more ugly guys as a penance. Why dead animals!!!! You may be asking yourself, why animals? Well fuck! Somebodys listening. What did they do wrong? That is the pointsince the animals did no wrong, they died in place of the one performing the sacrifice. Huh? Since
the animals did no wrong That would be the reason they shouldnt have been sacrificed! This answer better be good. Jesus Christ also did no wrong but willingly gave Himself to die for the sins of mankind (1 Timothy 2:6). What did he do that for? Look, Jesus, just show up and go, Look, assholes, you need to make up for this bad shit you did. Start building schools or Ill send you to hell. Start helping little old ladies across the street or Im going to get Medieval on your ass. Hop to, move, move, move! Jesus Christ took our sin upon Himself and died in our place. What the fuck does that mean? He died in our place. Im going to die anyway! He fuckin died and Im going to die too. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, God made him [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Wait a fuckin goddamn minute here. So man does bad shit. God instead of instructing his children how to do good shit and prescribing appropriate penalties or acts of atonmenent to make up for the bad shit, demands we kill animals What the fuck are you talking about! Have I gone to insane-o town? Furthermore, God gets tired of all the dead animal carcases so decides to send a human being who he will kill as well. Are you all mental? And this did not answer the animal question. It avoided it. What did the animals do!? You just said Oh well the animals were innocent and got the shaft but so did Jesus...moving on No moving on! Killing an innocent person is wrong, wrong, wrong, you dumbshits. If I do something wrong, I will pay for it, end of story. Through faith in what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross, we can receive forgiveness. Jesus accomplished? Wasnt he God? God could fart a rainbow; I think he could pull of dying pretty easily. In summation, animal sacrifices were commanded by God so that the individual could experience forgiveness of sin. My heads about to fucking explode here. God could have commanded 1778638902949785316515427827 things other than killing animals to have a human being experience forgiveness. I have gone to crazy town. I am the only sane person here and all I have
is my crossbow and my trusty steed Jake to survive and make it to the border. The animal served as a substitute head steaming...head steaming!!! that is, the animal died in place of the sinner head exploded...brain matter everywhere, but only temporarily, which is why the sacrifices needed to be offered over and over. You have done no explaining. You have simply stated that you believe the universe was created by a madman, by a petulant child who demanded restitution for sin but instead of asking a wrong be righted, simply demanded DEATH, DEATH, DEATH. The summation of your post is basically that the doll from the Chucky movies is the ruler of the universe. I got you. Lord, have I got you. Animal sacrifices have stopped with Jesus Christ. Oh well thank Jesus. Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrificial substitute The Dali Lama practices non-judgment and lack of anger on the Chinese...how does he do it? I need you Mr. Lama, I really need you now. once for all time (Hebrews 7:27) and is now the only mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). Animal sacrifices foreshadowed Christs sacrifice on our behalf. The only thing they foreshadow is that your god is a nutball. The only basis on which an animal sacrifice could provide forgiveness of sins is Christ who would sacrifice Himself for our sins, So youre saying that god needed blood to fix the universe but animal blood wasnt powerful enough so he became a human and killed himself so he could get some of his own blood, which was powerful enough to fix the universe...holy fuck Im sold! Where is the nearest church!? providing the forgiveness that animal sacrifices could only illustrate and foreshadow. The thrust of this post by gotquestions.org is a mental mind-fuck. It makes no sense, paints the Christian god as an insane, petulant, deathobsessed child who beats little animals caught behind the woodshed while he slathers himself in their blood. This post does not answer questions; it simply creates more of them: If the cosmos is such that blood is needed when humans sin, why did your god set it up that way? What kind of omniscient and supposedly omnibenevolent deity would require the death of an innocent being? Our justice systems are not perfect but infinitely
more just than this so why in the world was the best system your god could come up with KILL LITTLE KITTIES!!!! If you are a Christian and are reading this, really ask yourself if this makes sense. Ask yourself if you honestly believe that the creator of the entire universe needed blood, and if he did, why in the world would he set it up that way? Is this indeed the most plausible scenario or is another scenario is infinitely more plausible? That Christianity is based on Ancient Judiaism, and the ancient Jews, barbarians that the were, believed that their gods required something to get something. You wanted a pretty wife? You needed to give the gods something for it. And since the gods were immortal and lived up in the sky, killing a living thing and burning it (see Bible) seemed like the most obvious way to contact the gods. The Jews came to believe that their gods would be angry if they sinned so they killed animals to appease them. It only makes sense. Resources were scarce. Meat was valuable. Giving meat to a god would surely impress him. When Jesus died, the fledgling Christians had to come up with a justification for why the supposed Messiah had just been unceremoniously crucified. It took a while but then bingo! Jesus was just like the animal sacrifices! But this time he was the daddy of all sacrifices! Think about how much sense it makes to continue participating in an animal/human-sacrifice cult which is Christianity. Think about it.
