The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between reading comprehension skills and performance in Statistics subject of STI College students in Quezon City. Specifically, this study focused on three objectives, the first one is to find the performance in Statistics subject of students of STI College in different branches in Quezon City. Second is to discover the performance of students of STI College in different branches with regard to the following reading comprehension skills: making inferences; drawing conclusions and making generalizations; following directions; understanding maps, charts, diagrams and tables;

distinguishing important and unimportant details; and overall score in reading comprehension test. Lastly, is to find the relationship between the students performance in statistics and their reading comprehension skills.

Stratified random sampling technique was used in choosing the respondents using Slovens formula. The study made use of two multiple-choice tests, both fifty-item test in reading comprehension skills and a statistics test. The performance in statistics and reading comprehension skills were analyzed using mean scores. Determination of the Pearson correlation coefficient and t-test were employed to determine the relationship between the performance in statistics and reading comprehension skills of college students. The major findings of the study are as follows: First, the performance in Statistics subject of students of STI College in different branches in Quezon City is considered good since the grand mean is 24.45 out of 50 item tests with rating of 48.90. Second, the performance in reading comprehension skills of these students was very good for the reason that the overall score in reading comprehension skills test has a mean score of 31.92 out of 50 and with a rating of 63.84. With regard to significant comprehension skills results: the performance in making inferences skill and drawing conclusions and making generalizations skill, the rating is 54.80 which is equivalent to 5.48 and 5.97 respectively out of 10-item questions with an interpretation as good. The performance in following directions, understanding maps, charts, diagrams and tables and distinguishing important and unimportant details is very good since the mean score is 7.15, 6.51 and 6.80 out of 10. The performance in statistics is positively related to all reading comprehension skills and also the overall score because the computed Pearson r were 0.11, 0.17, 0.24, 0.26, 0.27 and 0.32 consequently. The computed t-values are 2.17, 3.38, 4.85, 5.28, 5.50, and 6.63 therefore the null hypotheses are rejected since the computed t-values are higher than the tabular value 1.96. Thus, it could be concluded that there exist a significant relationship between the performance of students in statistics and their reading comprehension skills. The reading comprehension skills such as making inferences, drawing conclusions and making generalizations, following directions, understanding maps, charts, diagrams and tables and distinguishing between important and unimportant details definitely, helps the students to be successful in statistics. Conversely, students who cannot understand well what they read perform poorly in statistics.
