OYSTER MUSHROOM CULTIVATION: A TRIAD OF THREE ACTORS IN EXTENSION This extension project is an offshoot of the ingenious efforts of the Kalinga-Apayao State College and the Bachelor of Agricultural Technology which simply operates on the premise TRAIN, SUSTAIN AND CAMPAIGN.. Students, after receiving such training on oyster mushroom, were then encouraged to establish contact with interested rural folks who, in turn, also received the same training that they had inside KASC. This time around, however, the original trainees became the trainors but still with supervision from the project leaders ,the SUSTAIN segment of the project ,done via monitoring and reinforcement . Three areas were identified and subsequently received an in-situ training-cum-live demonstration from December 2010 to May 2011, from which emanatsl a rapid replication in other areas. This is the CAMPAIGN portion of the project It is then safe to conclude that the technical know-how gained within KASC and put into actual practice gave way to a fired-up interest on mushroom production backed up by monetary figures that serve as proof of the profitability of the venture. In the realm of extension work, diffusion and its subsequent adoption is made faster when there are observable benefits that can be directly derived from any endeavor. As can be exemplified by the experience of the KASC interns, they not only solved their immediate need for an internship requirement and an extra source of income they also became instruments in propagating a technical know-how that has been readily embraced and replicated by the larger community. This is diffusion with response. This is extension with results.
