Beginners Guide to Industrial Craft (IC)

Hello all, this is a beginners guide to Industrial Craft (IC) with attached Crafting Guide at the bottom of the page: First, if you don't already know. Industrial Craft is one of the mods included in the Tekkit Mod Pack. It basically allows you to build many cool new things, such as; jetpacks! Mining Drills, & other assorted awesomeness. Most of the machines and devices you can build using Industrial Craft run on a form of electricity called EU. NOTE: IC is one of 3 mods that use a form of electricity, each mod uses a different form of it. Industrial Craft uses EU, Red Power uses Blutricity, & Build Craft uses MJ. This guide is specifically about Industrial Craft and uses EU only. Now for the actual guide: NOTE: I assume that you know enough to go punch a tree, pick a rock, and build yourself a base where you wont starve. The names of items in Bold Red are items that you can find on the crafting guide I have provided. Step A: Resource Gathering: You will need to grab alot of resources. I have divided the resource gathering into 3 sections for ease of concept. 1. Rubber: You will need lots of sticky resin, which can be found by rclicking on a resin patch on a rubber tree with a Treetap. Cook it in a furnace to make Rubber. NOTE: Don't cook up all your Resin immediately, use the furnace as needed. There will be more effecient methods of gaining Rubber later on. There are two types of rubber trees: light coloured huge trees found in jungles; & dark coloured small ones found mostly in swamps. You will want the small dark coloured ones, the big ones are from another mod called Build Craft and are used for that mod. Super Important: Only click the resin patches once. If you use the Treetap on a blank rubber log, you will get resin but use up the resin in the log permanently. (THATS BAD)

2. Redstone Dust: You will need a small amount of Redstone to start off, so you will need to go down the bottom layers to get some. You'll need around 32, but more would be better. 3. Everything Else: You will need alot of Copper, Coal, & Iron. You will also need some Tin & Flint. They can be found everywhere included on the surface. NOTE: Many recipes in Industrial Craft need Coal Dust, which can only be attained through actual Coal, but for our purposes Charcoal will work as we will be using it only for fuel. Don't cook up al your ores immediately, use the furnace as needed. There will be more efficient methods of processing your ores later on. There are two types of Copper & Tin ores that won't stack & will smelt into items with different names. Both perform identical in my tests and can even be used in the same recipe. Step B: Basic Setup: 1. Iron Furnace: Smelt 5pcs of Iron Ore then make an Iron Furnace (it's faster). 2. Smelting: Now you will need to smelt 16 Tin Ore, 9 Copper Ore, 18 Sticky Resin, & 8 Iron Ore. 3. Re-Smelting: You will need to put the 8 Iron Ingots you just made back into the furnace and smelt them into Refined Iron. 4. Cable: Use your crafting bench to make up 3 batches of Insulated Copper Cable (you should get 6 from each crafting). 5. Batteries: You will need to make 4 RE Batteries using the Insulated Copper Cable, Tin, & Redstone Dust. 6. Machine Block: Use the Refined Iron to make a Machine Block. 7. Generator: Make the Generator using an RE Battery, a Machine Block, & a Stone Furnace. NOTE: The Generator is how you power all your machines. You put coal in, it consumes it creating EU. 8. Batbox: Make a Batbox using the last 3 RE Batteries, some Wood Planks, & an Insulated Copper Cable. NOTE: The Batbox allows you to store EU for future use (upto 40,000 EU). 9. Placement: Place the Generator & Batbox down; not adjacent to each other but not to far apart (see Crafting Guide for placement). NOTE: The output side of the Batbox will be facing you when you place it (little orange circle), make sure it doesn't point towards Generator.

10. Connection: Connect the 2 devices using Insulated Copper Cable, making sure not to connect the Generator to the output side of the Batbox. 11. Output: Place 6 sections of Insulated Copper Cable in a row starting from the output of the Batbox. This is where we will place our machines later. NOTE: The 5th & 6th sections of Insulated Copper Cable will experience a small power loss due to cable length, but this is negligible for our purposes. Step C: Machines: 1. Baby Steps: Turn 9 more Iron Ore into Refined Iron and make up another batch of Insulated Copper Cable. Then make 1 Machine Block & 1 Electronic Circuit. 2. Macerator: Use all that plus some Redstone Dust, Cobblestone, & Flint to make a Macerator. Place it on your Production Line. NOTE: The Macerator grinds up 1 ore into 2 dust, which can then be smelted into ingot form. This doubles your ore yield. Make a bunch of Refined Iron. 3. Wrench: Grind up 5 Copper & 2 Tin ore into their dust forms. Use them to make Bronze Dust. Smelt the dust to make Bronze Ingots. Use those to make a Wrench. NOTE: The Wrench is used to reclaim machines after placement. Be warned: there is a 20% chance each use; of getting a Machine Block back instead of the machine. 4. Extractor: You will need to make another Machine Block, Electric Circuit, & 4 Treetaps to make an Extractor. Place it on your Production Line. NOTE: The Extractor will allow you to extract 3 Rubber from each Sticky Resin, instead of the normal 1:1 ratio. Make a bunch of Insulated Copper Cable. 5. Compressor: Make another Electronic Circuit & Machine Block. Use them and some stone to make the Compressor. NOTE: The Compressor is needed for more advanced Machines. 6. Last but not least: Use a Electronic Circuit, your Iron Furnace, & some Redstone Dust to make the Electric Furnace. Step C: The Sun: 1. Resources: You'll need 3 Glass, 3 Coal Dust, 2 Electronic Circuits, & 1 Generator for each Solar Panel you add. So get producing. 2. Placement: You'll need to place them where they have access to the sun (glass above is ok) but aren't to far from your Batbox (to avoid EU loss over distance).

3. Hookup: Use Insulated Copper Wire to hook them upto your Batbox (not the output side of the Batbox). This is the end of the Beginners Guide, There is lots more you can do though! Like Overchargers, Solar Arrays, Upgraded Machines, Mining Drills, Lazer Swords, & Jetpacks!
