Sancta Familia Homeschool Cooperative

Our Patroness

Holy Mary, Queen of the Apostles

Our Motto
Sanctifying Our Souls, while educating our minds

Our Mission Statement

It is our mission to provide an amiable atmosphere in which parents and children can work together as a community and to immerse ourselves in that which is true, good, and beautiful. We hope to instill a love for learning, an appreciation for the traditions of our Catholic faith, charity for our neighbors, and a desire to always follow Gods will through a focus on the Tridentine liturgy and calendar. With the help of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, may we be an example to each other on how to live a virtuous life and lead one another to heaven.

Sancta Familia Rules of Conduct

It is by way of obedience that we go to God - St. Benedict

Arrival
Try to be dependable even in little things. Dependability is one of the most enviable characteristics you can possess, for it includes unselfishness, punctuality, thoughtfulness, loyalty, and charity. - The Hidden Power of Kindness, pg. 18 Fr. Lovasik 1. Please be an example of responsibility to your child by arriving on time. 2. Dropping your child/ren off is not an option. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 3. Have all assignments completed before class and remember to bring the assignments and all required materials with you. 4. All students and parents will be expected to dress modestly according to the dress code. 5. If your family will be absent, please let someone know as soon as possible to assure that your responsibilities at the co-op will be covered by someone else. It is the parents responsibility to get any missed work and assignments from their childs teacher. 6. Parents should try to have their child/ren use the restroom before co-op begins to lessen interruptions during class. 7. When walking to class, please walk slowly and calmly and keep your voices low. Stay in line with your class.

Class Behavior/ Discipline

A true understanding and humble estimate of oneself is the highest and most valuable of all lessons. - The Imitation of Christ, Ch. 2 1. Students and parents should conduct themselves so as to reflect the virtues of Christ. Show respect and courtesy to all adults and peers by: o respecting others property by asking permission to use and /or touch something that does not belong to you o being attentive to those teaching o raising your hand politely and waiting to be called on if you wish to speak o taking turns with others to speak in an informal class discussion o allowing other students to concentrate on their work by behaving in a manner that does not distract or disrupt the class o cleaning up after yourself o showing cheerful obedience by obeying the first time you are asked. 2. Students are expected to be encouraging and supportive of one another. They should take the initiative to help peers in need and to share materials when necessary. Name-calling, destructive criticism, and/or rude comments will not be tolerated. 3. If any child shows any sort of physical harm to another child (hitting, pushing, biting, etc.), they will be sent out of the class immediately.

4. Teachers and assistants should aim to be models of proper behavior by not talking to other moms during class, not checking cell phones, etc. 5. Parents are responsible for their own child/ren unless they are unavailable to be in class with them. If a student becomes disruptive or unmanageable, the teacher/assistant should immediately correct the child and ask them to stop. If the child does not stop, the child will be sent to his parent. 6. Children must stay in their seats unless otherwise instructed by their teacher. No child may leave the classroom without permission. If possible, wait to use the bathroom between classes so as not to interrupt the lessons. 7. Be respectful of the Valley Bible Church property. You will be held accountable for any damages caused by your actions.

Departure
Crux Sacra sit mihi lux (May the Holy Cross be my light) -St. Benedict Medal 1. Please see that all of your familys belongings are gathered before leaving the building. 2. No children are allowed outside without adult supervision. 3. If you are not in charge of cleaning that day, please leave promptly to lessen the obstacles of those who are.

Dress Code
Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temperance. Modesty protects the intimate center of a person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden..... Modesty protects mystery of the person and their love. -2521-2522 Catechism of the Catholic Church You, dear reader, are the only person in existence who knows you are a subject, am I, an unique conscience, and an individual perspective in the Cosmos. -Modesty is Honesty, blog article by Marc Shae

As our goal at co-op is growing together in knowledge and virtue, please dress in a fashion that glorifies Our Lord. We hope to beautifully and reverently adorn the temple of the Holy Spirit, which all baptized persons are. Please refrain from wearing t-shirts and articles of clothing with large logos or characters on them that might distract from this mission.

Gentleman may wear collared shirts; this can be a button-up or polo. Khaki pants may be worn; no athletic pants or jeans. Khaki-style shorts, in any color, are permitted during the warm months. Ladies may wear skirts or dresses of a dignified length and fit. No pants; shorts are recommended under little girls dresses. No sleeveless or low cut shirts, please.

Sick Policy
We would like to encourage all members of the Sancta Familia Homeschool Cooperative to attend all co-op classes. For the health and well-being of all the members of the Sancta Familia Homeschool Cooperative, we have made the following sick policy. If your child or you has any of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours, please stay home.
Fever of 100 or higher Skin rash other than diaper rash or prickly heat. Diarrhea - increased number and water content of stools that cannot be contained within the diaper or underwear. Vomiting two or more times in the same day Any parasitic infestation (lice, scabies, etc.) Pink eye Chicken pox - until all blisters have dried and formed scabs, usually about 6 days after the onset of the rash.

Once the symptoms have been gone for 24 hours, please feel free to return to co-op. We would rather you rest and recover completely from the illness. If you are sick, please contact Monique Gilkison or Jodi Shaffer as soon as possible, so arrangements can be made to cover your position. Please let you co-op partner know so they too can make the proper adjustments.

What do families pay? Facility Fee: max. $180/family (Price depends on number of families involved) Insurance Fee: max $71.50/family (Price depends on number of families involved) Printing Fee: $40/family Books Fee: $160*/family (estimate- price varies per family based on books

How do we get lower fees? MORE PEOPLE!

We cant get around it! The building utilities and the insurance must be paid by someone, so we share in that payment to Sherando Presbyterian Church, which has been so kind to allow us to use the building. Here is the breakdown of the facility and the insurance fee: $1800 Church $715 Annual Insurance Price per family with 10 families: Price per family with 15 families: $251.50/family $167.70/family

Supply Fee: PreK-6th grade $50 per student What is the book fee?

(Fee covers art, science and general supplies)

This is not paid to the Homeschool Cooperative. This reflects the price you will pay when you order the books necessary to participate in the homeschool co-op. We recommend you order these books as soon as possible, so you do not risk beginning the co-op ill-prepared. Note that these are the minimum requirements, but you may want to order the recommended books to further your studies at home.

What is the supplies fee?

A supply list will be provided to each family. These supplies will be shared by all students and stored in the coop cabinets for the year. We strive to make the supply list reflect the numerous items that can be found around the house. Many supplies can be bought cheaper in bulk, so there is a maximum supply fee of $50 per student to cover art, science, and general supplies.

What about field trips?

Field Trips are optional excursions that contribute to the overall experience and benefits of the homeschool co-op. For each field trip there will be a deadline by which to sign up and payment will be made at that time to the appropriate facility (zoo, museum, etc.) Average fee per student is $4.00 for field trips.

This is a payment model based on no teacher pay. We are not a school, but a cooperative. Everyone must have a job within the co-op and do their fair share!
