CrimeInformation Policeseeklocalcommunitieshelpinbidtotackleruralcrime PoliceinKendalhavelaunchedanoperationinabidtotackleruralcrimeandtoencourageruralcommunitiestoassistthePolice infightingcrime. OperationStrokeispartofthepolicestrategythatInspectorRichardQuinnwasappointedtoleadonbehalfofCumbria Constabulary. TheaimofOperationStrokeistwofold:firstlytofocuspoliceactivityinkeyruralareasandsecondlytoencouragerural communitiestojointhefightagainstcrime. SergeantJohnStephensoftheNeighbourhoodPolicingTeamatKendalsaid:Ruralcrime,particularlyintheKirkbyLonsdale andSedberghareas,isontheincrease.Althoughtheactualfiguresremainrelativelylow,theimpactandfearofcrimeareoften magnifiedbythefeelingofisolationandhelplessness. OperationStrokewillensurepoliceactivityisintelligenceled,targetingtheroadnetworkandcriminalsandtheirvehiclesknown tobeactiveinruralcrime. CumbriaPolicestatisticsshowthatitisacquisitivecrimethatisontheincreaseinruralareas.Thisincludesburglaryoffarm buildingsandtheftoffarmmachineryandvehicles,theftofmetalandfuel,andinsomecaseslivestock.
