Greetings from cur new home in San Bernardino, California. (Please disregard the return address on the envelope).
In preparing to write this final TASK I looked back over other news letters we have written over the past ten years and I am filled with thanksgiving for so much that God has given us and for the blessings from this period of our lives. The time has passed quick ly, and now we are beginning a new phase in our lives for Him. Our furlough has gone well. We reported to the churches both in the southern California area and across the country. In doing so and in sharing with individuals we have traveled over 20,000 miles since our December 1, 1981 arrival in the U.S. from Zimbabwe. On June 17 David and Julie completed a semester and five weeks of school in LaCrescenta. On the 18th we were on our way to collect personal belongings stored with Reba's sister, Anita Bailey in
Seattle. We visited friends and relatives enroute and returned to

LaCrescenta briefly to unload and to load up again. David had attend ed a friend*s wedding in Indianapolis and met us in Albuquerque on our way to Nebraska. On July 3rd we attended a Flarrison family re

union at Bill's sister's farm near Hay Springs, Nebraska. Bill preached in his old home church at Chadron, Nebraska on Sunday,July 4
By special request of Clark Sloneker who had been one of Bill's

ministers at Chadron in the early 1950's. Bill preached at his church in Arlington, S.D. on the 11th. We visited a friend in Norfolk, Nebr. that afternoon enroute to Tilden for an exciting
week on Reba's sister's farm.
for a

Next we went to Shawnee, Oklahoma

visit with Reba's oldest sister and a school friend of Reba's.

On the way to Kansas City for the North American Christian Conven

tion it was our pleasure to visit Ray Lingo, Jack and Judy Schaible,
and the ziden Nutt family. We were so happy to have been in attend
ance at the NACC as i t was such a good time of fellowship and a

good source of information and inspiration. The next Sunday was fun as we worshipped and picniced with many
of the people of Ellettsville church in Indiana. Bill shared slides

with them in the evening. After another day of fun with the Dr. Nice family, we went to visit Bruce and Karolyn Ammerman in Indianapolis. We talked a lot about Zimbabwe and saw the sights with Karolyn. While at Chuck and Carol Kelley's near Hillsboro, Oh., David surprized everyone by having a seizure just past midnight on Sunday morning, August 8.. After two more seizures he landed in Emergency at Cincinnati General Gospital where he remained until Wednesday. We were so thankful for being allowed to stay Monday and Tuesday nights in the dormitory of the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. The Doctor

found nothing unusual after several tests on David and discharged him on Wednesday noon after writing a perscription.

2,

Though we felt i t necessary to cut our trip a bit shorter, we spent Wednesday night with the former Miss Ola Marion who on July
3rd had become Mrs, Ola. She had been one of the children's teach

ers in Zimbabwe.
God is so goodi

We enjoyed seeing her and getting to know her

husband. Forest Moore.

With the exception of a few tire troubles and

the loss of some oil which resulted when David and Bill each managed to forget to replace the oil cap (Bill lost it), we had no problems with the car. It ran very well and pulled the little tent-trailer easily. We had general good health and so much to be thankful for. We arrived safely at our new (to us) house in San Bernardino on the 17th of August and "camped" that night while completing the in terior painting and carpet shampooing. We went by to see Reba's
parents in La Puente on the 18th enroute to LaCrescenta. Her father

is in better health than he has been in for years after complete

recovery following a serious auto accident in January and many complications and surgeries. Now he is back at his insurance busi

ness office daily,

(We helped him celebrate his 79th birthday on

September 10th). We thank God for his recovery. We rented a big truck on Saturday and with the excellent help of Chet and Margret Stilabower and some of the Tujunga church young people, moved all of our things out of Al and Mary Battles* garage and house. Thank you so much, Al and Mary, Chet and Margret and all our wonderful friends at Tujunga Christian Church. . On_ Sunday-the -29 th-of-August^-we~placed-our membership wi-th theGolden Valley Church of Christ which is just one block up our street. We are developing many new friends here. We are completing our furlough and resigning from the Central

Africa Mission as of September 30. We thank you and please know that your support can continue to help the work at Chidamoyo Mission if you will direct it to Miss Kathy McCarty via Central Africa Mission,
P. O. Box 7141, Sacramento, Ca. 95826, or to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Martin, P. O. Box 330, Karoi, Zimbabwe, Africa. As we look back over these past ten years we are so thankful

for the help of each of you. Looking ahead these words about God spoken by Isaiah the prophet express our desire: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee." Isaiah 26:3. May God's perfect peace, mercy and blessings be yours.

Love in Christ,
* A j.r\
