MGNREGA Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005

MGNREGA (Also known as NREGA) is the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It is said to be the largest welfare program in the world which is run by Government of India. It was started in August 25, 2005. PROS according to me: This act was enacted to provide a job guarantee to the Rural People in India. This act guarantees to provide a minimum 100 days of paid employment every year to an adult member of any family with the minimum wage of approx. 120/day & who would likely do any unskilled work. (If they didnt do so, then government will bear their salaries at their home). It has resulted (or expected to result, I would say) in increase in the rural employment, especially for women. People in rural areas now dont have to wander everywhere to sustain their livelihood. As people working under this scheme are getting fixed wages, so they dont have to fear about that & they work towards development of the country. CONS: This act was disparaged by people as it was thought of no effectiveness than other acts which were running in the system. Every act/effort passed in the favor of people should not be just enacted & left to float away! It has to be seen that it is carried out successfully all around. Corruption! It is seen that whatever may be the issue in India, corruption is always the part of it. People say that they are often not paid, fewer wages are paid, they have to bribe the officer to get a job, their cards are used by other officers, dead people are also paid, etc I think corruption is responsible for more than 80% of the failure of this act. It is also seen that the quality of work done by the unskilled labor is poor as compared to any skilled labor. People are not taught any new skills so that they can improve their quality of work & sustain their work for a longer period. And the important one is that despite of such programs migration from rural areas to urban area is not reduced. To conclude, I think that this initiative is a better, almost best way to support the Indian society but people should change their way of thinking & try to support this development. Corruption should be barred from it. Mentality should be changed. Just implementing such programs is not enough but they should be supported with dedication to help people as a social & humanly cause. It will provide a bridge to India towards becoming a Super Power!

MGNREGA - A key to increase employment in the country.

For - It is a scheme which provides legal guarantee for jobs or employment to the rural sector of our country. - There is an increase in the number of people who are willing to do manual work for a minimum wage which has resulted in an increase in employment. - It improves the purchasing power of the rural community, encouraging them to do work. - Women have also come out and are now consist of more than one-third of the stipulated force. Further increasing the number of people employed. - Rural people have shed their fear of coming outside and have started to work towards the development of the nation as they are getting wages, which is encouraging other unemployed people to work as well. Against - It is criticized as it is thought to be no more effective than the other employment programs that have been enlisted in the system. - It has resulted in more corrupt officials which resulted in deficit in the source of funds. - This is not effective as it has resulted in poor quality of infrastructure and has an unintended destructive effect on poverty. - This scheme doesnt teach new skills to the unemployed that is necessary for the development of the country. - The conditions that are provided to the rural people are not sufficient to lure them to get employed.

Can the return of Narayan Murthy revive Infosys? Nupur 08-23-2013 11:32 PM

Can the return of Narayan Murthy revive Infosys?

Narayan Murthy has made a comeback as executive chairman in Infosys. Is it a wise move? Will it make a huge difference with Narayan Murthy coming into the picture? For: - With Narayan Murthys outstanding leadership abilities and he being the founder of Infosys, he could revive Infosys - Because of the experience that they hold along with the time spent in the company, the stakeholder and the investors have faith in them - Globally, en number of companies like Apple, Google, and Dell has had their CEOs make a successful comeback and has also revived the company be it in terms of finances or in-terms of its policies and reputation. The leadership of the individual is all that matters - Murthys knowledge in guiding newly established companies will act as an added advantage to Infosys Against: - The IT industry keeps changing every 5 year or so and with Murthys comeback at the age of 60 will not make that much of a difference to Infosys - Its not necessary every CEO that makes a comeback is successful in his venture - With the changing trend in the commercial sector, it is not necessary that Murthy will be able to perform as effectively as he use to do previously - With the changing trend, Infosys should focus on hiring new CEO which belong to the latest generation rather than bringing in the old ones. Conclusion: - With the changing trend, we should also change our methods of leadership that is the hour of the need. It is not a wise move by bringing Murthy back into Infosys, rather they should have brought in somebody who is young and holds a good experience to revive Infosys.

Burqa clad superhero in Pakistan - A symbol of woman empowerment

Burqa, a traditional dress of the Muslims to cover their face when in public, has been recently shown in one of the superhero show to be launched in Pakistan. For: - Pakistan is a country, where ruthlessness against females is extensive, and Pakistan being a male dominated society, if television shows portray a female superhero combating on behalf of the women would be encouraging for other women as well in the society - The cartoon series concept is based on the need of girls education in countries where education and working women are discouraged as well as disrespected - Presenting the female superhero with a burqa will go with the countrys tradition and people will not out rightly reject it Against: - The burqa avenger fails to portray the values that a burqa in real depicts - Since the female superhero is shown wearing a burqa, it will all the more reinforce this tradition among the young girls and women - Because of the religious fringe, the position of women is degrading day by day. - The caricature is anticipated to be a role model for Pakistani girls even the burqa that the caricature is made to wear embodies the meticulously conflicting role of women's liberation - The Caricature signifies the degree to which immoderation and suppression of women have reached in Pakistan. Conclusion: - Although the caricature is made to wear a burqa as per the tradition in Pakistan, but how effective this cartoon series be on the public is still a question in the minds of the people. Pakistan being a male dominated country does not allow women to study and work. - Even with this cartoon series going how effective it is going to be nobody knows and will it lead to a positive enforcement or a negative is yet to be discovered. Bollywood divas working with new stars

- female actors have realised their ability to hit the box office bulls-eye The time has gone when you needed a backing of khan surname to make a debutant entry into Bollywood. Today is the time of equality; female actors too hold a strong and demanding position in todays time and can enter Bollywood with their talent. For: - With the help of new male co-stars, the female actors are creating a market space which completely belongs to them. - Khans being talented and with the experience they hold, eat up all the lime light and the credit which is to be shared with the females as well, with this kind of culture new talent will get to carve their own space as well as the female actors will also gain recognition of their work - The directors will also have a large pool of actors in front of them, and hence will give them a choice to whom they want to work with - New talent will be encouraged not only for actors but also for directors Against: - With the Khans acting in movies, it helps Bollywood earning serious money even when the market is low - When the public is used to seeing some or the other khan in movies, the expectation are high amongst the public and it becomes all the more difficult for new actors to make a mark in the industry - If new talent gets a chance to be introduced into the Bollywood market with either of the khans, they attract fame easily and can set a benchmark for the others - It is also easier for them to get more projects in the future - Working with the Khans also brings you some instant international limelight as well which alone becomes a little difficult as well as it takes time. Conclusion: - As it is rightly said Old is Gold. The Khans have made a name in the market with their experience. You cannot deny the fact that success becomes comparatively easier for those who are paired against them - But yes, actors who have already marked or entered the industry need not necessarily act with just them; they should feel encouraged to work with new talent as well.

India is a regressive and depressing country for women.

India is a regressive and depressing country for women, has recently cited by Mallika Sherawat in one of her interviews. We are currently in the 21st century, but has the status of women really changed, or are we still sailing in the same boat? For: - Today with the changing time, we see more and more women becoming independent - Single mothers conquering acceptance and status in the society - We can see more and more women leaders in each and every sector, for instance, politics, media, sports, art and culture, service sector - The ratio of educated women is increasing, which gives them the courage to fight against the oppression by the men Against: - Although we being in the 21st century, yet women has not attained that stature in India which she is worthy of, - Crime against women is increasing day by day - Women still do not share an equal status with men - Child marriages are still common in rural areas - Female Foeticide is still a common problem not only in the rural areas but also urban cities - In terms of literacy rate, today also males are given priority in contrast to female literacy rate - Significant decisions of womens life are yet taken either by the father or the husband - Disrespect and disregard still persists in the society Conclusion: - As it is rightly said, Rome was not built in a day, it will take some time for the status of women to change in India as well - The change has already begun, its slow but its changing

Hard work or Smart work - Which is important? Rajani Sharma 01-9-2012 01:33 AM Work is important to do as it takes us to the next level of success. The most important question you should ask at this place is what kind of work will take you to that level: is it hard work or smart work. For - Smart work is really the need of the hour. - Smart work saves lots of time and allows you to be more organized. - Through smart work your goals can be reached faster. - Doing smart work allows you to save time for other things which you might not get by doing hard work like, exercise, spending time with family etc. - Smart work brings lots of recognition from the society and allows you to grow more in the industry you are in. Against - Hard work takes lots of time just to make things correct.

- It is totally time consuming and exhausting experience, as after doing lots of work you left out with less energy to do anything else. - Hard work doesn't allow you to fully use your brain and it pushes you for more physical work. - In terms of determination and persistence hard work is really important but not lot can be achieved. - Working hard is not enough as it might not bring the best result of a problem or a situation. I would like to conclude in the end that smart work is really important as it saves time and allows you to reach your goals faster than that of a hard work.

RE: Corruption Shreyan 11-25-2012 09:38 PM As pollution and population, corruption become a new headache to our country. though there is no solution "balm" for such a headache, and we the aam-aadmis are facing the main problem. A formerly studious and meritorious student didnt get a job if his father is out of his pocket. Nowadays in India there is no one to praise, but hidden to press for money. As per latest news in India approximately 63% Indians are corrupted. The corrupted father should know that their sons are being corrupted from them and in future if the man goes to the department his son may raise his left hand for the solution he is seeking for. At last I'll say, though I know no one will care for it, "NO! I am Indian. I'm proud I'm Indian. I'll stand my country first not for CORRUPTION, but as INCREDIBLE amongst the incredibles for a fresh one in mind." RE: Corruption venkata Radhika 11-27-2012 08:57 PM

corruption is spiritual or moral impurity or deviation from an ideal. Corruption entails many forms including bribery and embezzlement. Government corruption occurs when an elected representative makes decisions that are influenced by vested interest rather than their own personal or party ideological beliefs. Corruption can occur on many different scales. There is corruption that occurs as small favours between a small number of people (petty corruption), while there is the corruption that affects the government on a large scale (grand corruption), and corruption that is so prevalent that it is part of the every day structure of society (systemic corruption). Government/ Public Sector Public sector corruption is one of the more dangerous forms of corruption as corruption of the governing body can lead to widespread effects. Legislative System (Political) Political corruption is the abuse of public power, office, or resources by elected government officials for personal gain, e.g. by extortion, soliciting or offering bribes[6] It can also take the form of office holders maintaining themselves in office by purchasing votes by enacting laws which use taxpayers' money.[7] Executive System (Police) Police corruption is a specific form of police misconduct designed to obtain financial benefits, other personal gain, and/or career advancement for a police officer or officers in exchange for not pursuing, or selectively pursuing, an investigation or arrest. One common form of police corruption is soliciting and/or accepting bribes in exchange for not reporting organized drug or prostitution rings or other illegal activities. Another example is police officers flouting the police code of conduct in order to secure convictions of suspects for example, through the use of falsified evidence. More rarely, police officers may deliberately and systematically participate in organized crime themselves. In most major cities, there are internal affairs sections to investigate suspected police corruption or misconduct. Similar entities include the British Independent Police Complaints Commission. Judiciary System Judicial Corruption refers to corruption related misconduct of judges, through receiving or giving bribes, improper sentencing of convicted criminals, bias in the hearing and judgement of arguments and other such misconduct. Governmental corruption of judiciary is broadly known in many transitional and developing countries because the budget is almost completely controlled by the executive. The latter undermines the separation of powers, as it creates a critical financial dependence of the judiciary. The proper national wealth distribution including the government spending on the judiciary is subject of the constitutional economics. It is important to distinguish between the two methods of corruption of the judiciary: the government (through budget planning and various privileges), and the private.[8] Corporate As corporations and business entities grow larger, sometimes with a monetary turnover many times that of small countries, the threat of corruption in the business world, within the organisation, in dealings with other organisations and in dealings with the government is a looming and growing threat.[citation needed]Companies may indulge in political corruption. Unions Labour unions were formed to protect and further the rights of employees via collective bargaining. However, as with other entities, corruption has been known to

happen within the organisations. In addition, some unions have been infiltrated by, or associated with organised crime syndicates. Non-Government Organisations NGOs and other non-profit organisations are not immune to corruption and may be linked to political corruption. Different Methods of corruption Bribery Embezzlement, Theft and Fraud Extortion and Blackmail Abuse of Discretion Favouritism, Nepotism and Clientelism Improper Political Contributions RE: Corruption ashita 12-30-2012 12:58 PM corruption is one of the main issue of our country .
