Year Level: 4 Overarching Learning Outcomes: Creativity: 10. Students participate in creative activity of their own and understand and engage with the artistic, cultural and intellectual work of others. Self confidence & Personal satisfaction: 12. Students are self-motivated and confident in their approach to learning and are able to individually and collaboratively. Learning Area Outcome: Arts in Society Date: 16/05/2011 Specific Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this learning experience each student should be able to: Identify 5 key facts of the history of musical instruments. Identify the 5 groups of musical instruments. Identify instrument which falls under the group of wood-wind. Activity: Musical Cushion which involves a quiz. Detail: This is a fun and engaging activity chosen to allow students learn few facts of musical instruments through having fun. Process: Each student will receive a quiz sheet with 10 key information of history of musical instruments. Individually and With the person sitting next to them, students will read the information and test each other to see how much they can remember. Students will be put in two groups of A & B. They will be advised to sit in a circle by the pattern of ABABAB. During the game music will be playing in the background, while the students have to start passing the cushion around in their circle. Teacher will be monitoring the music and without looking, have to pause the music randomly. The person who is holding on to the cushion when the music stops, will be asked a question from the quiz sheet. If she/he gets the correct answer, then 1 mark will be allocated to his or her group.
