University Transit System

Operating Schedules University Transit Service operates under di erent schedules throughout the year. During academic semesters, UTS runs Full Service. On most holidays, including Reading Days, Winter Break, and Summer Vacation, UTS operates Holiday Service. In addition, during exams and nals, UTS runs exam service and on Friday and Saturday nights, UTS runs extended late night service. Full Service Mon-Fri with all routes, except Special Routes, on 10-minute intervals. After 8pm the Northline and U-Loop run on a 20-min loop. Extended Late Night Service operates from 12:30am-2:30am on Fridays and Saturdays. This service features the Northline and Outer U-Loop running on a 20-minute service.

UTS BUS ROUTES Northline (NL) The Northline connects housing areas with Central and North Grounds. The Northline provides service to the Hereford Residential College, Central Grounds, the Emmet/Ivy Garage, U-Hall, Darden, the Law School, and the Barracks Road Shopping Center. The Northline also runs during Extended Late Night Service. Inner Loop (IL) & Outer Loop (OL) The University Loop (U-Loop) connects the University with the Health System and surrounding housing areas. The U-Loop runs in two opposite directions with the Inner U-Loop and Outer U-Loop. Central Grounds (CGS) The Central Grounds Shuttle (CGS) provides service to the Copeley Family Housing Area, U-Hall, Facilities Management, and destinations along McCormick Road in Central Grounds. The CGS runs during Full, Holiday, and Exam Services. Collonade Shuttle The Colonnade Shuttle connects areas on Ivy Road to destinations in Central Grounds including Facilities Management, McCormick Road, and the Emmet/Ivy Garage. The Colonnade Shuttle only runs during Full Service. Green Route (GRN) The Green Route connects commuter lots to the Health System. The Green Route serves U-Hall, the Emmet/Ivy Garage, Central Grounds Garage, Cabell Hall, and the Health System. The Green Route does not run on Saturdays or Sundays. Stadium Hospital (SH)The Stadium/Hospital Shuttle (SHS) provides direct shuttle service between the commuter lots at Scott Stadium to the U.Va Health System. SHS does not run on Saturdays or Sundays.

Other Ways to Get Around


Zipcar is a car rental service that is mostly self serve. You can sign up to be a member as a University student and rent a car for day trips or weekend getaways! To use the service, you need to be 18 and have a valid drivers license. Rates vary depending on distance driven, gas used, and type of car you want to use. For more information visit www.zipcar.com Charlottesville-Albermarle Airport (CHO) is a commercial service airport that o ers daily non-stop ights to and from major cities such as New York, Washington DC, Charlotte, Detroit and Atlanta.There are also numerous airport shuttles available. For more information visit www.gocho.com or call (434) 973-8342 Also check out UVAirBus for a university provided shuttle airservice to Richmond and DC. For more on this visit www.uvastudentcouncil.com Amtrak has a nearby train station located at 810 West Main Street which is a short ride from Grounds. This particular station does not have lines through every major rail station, but it does service Union Station in Washington DC and Baltimore Washington Airport Rail Station. For information regarding tickets visit www.amtrak.com or call (434) 296 - 4559 Greyhoud has a nearby bus station located at 310 West Main Street. For information regarding tickets visit www.greyhound.com or call (434) 295-5131. Home Ride is a bus service o ered exclusively to Virginia college students looking to travel between local cities and other Universities including Radford, Virginia Tech, James Madison, and of course UVA. Students can also travel to Northern Virginia, Richmond, Hampton, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville. For more information visit www.homeride.com Yellow Cab is a taxi service you can use to go to and from the airport or the train station. Rates depend on the time or day and destination, but expect to spend at least $40 for a cab from these locations. Yellow cab also allows students to use the Dart Program. This service allows students who are physically disabled that are unable to use UTS to use the taxi service to take them where they need to go on grounds. This is o ered on an individual application baisis. For more info visit www.virginia.edu/parking/disabilities/dart/index.html Yellow cab also has a Dean of Student program in which you can present the driver with a valid UVA I.D. and ll out a ticket with your information to ride. The ticket is charged to the Dean of Students who will in turn bill the students account. This is pretty useful if you dont have your wallet on you. Trolley & The CAT


Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) o ers University students access to the CAT buses as well as the Free Trolley. The CAT buses service other parts of Charlottesville including the Fashion Square Mall, Barracks Road, and Downtown. The Free Trolley goes between Downtown and the University. While the trolley is free to use, the CAT buses require you to use a valid UVa I.D. to ride. How do I get to...


Old Dorms to Rugby Road? Get on the Outer Loop or Northline on McCormick or the Whitehead Stop by the AFC and get o at Rugby (OL) or University Avenue in front of the Rotunda (NL). The Corner or to the Downtown Mall? For the Corner get on the Trolley and get o at the Rotunda on Elliewood by Starbucks, or by 14th Street by Boylan. For the Downtown Mall, sit tight and continue to the Downtown Mall. Barracks Road Shopping Center? Get on the Northline heading towards North Grounds and it will take you to Barracks. To get back, wait by McDonalds where you were dropped o . Walmart or Fashion Square Mall? Get on the CAT Route 7 (NOT a UTS Route). You can get on at the Corner by the Bank of America building and it will take you to Fashion Square Mall, Walmart, and stops at Barracks on the way back. Foods of All Nations, Papa Johns, or Tokyo Rose? (Down Ivy Road) Take the Collonade Shuttle or Central Grounds Shuttle.

How to Get to Barracks: Take Emmett Street past Ivy Road and JPJ and it is on the left about 0.5 miles from Grounds. There are lots of shops, restaurants and grocery stores. Getting Involved
Dont be that kid that sits in the dorm room watching Net ix and sur ng the Internet. Go immerse yourself in the various activities on Grounds! CIO (Contracted Independent Organization) A fancy way to say club here at UVA, there are hundreds of student run organizations with tons of di ernt things to do. There are over 800+ groups on Grounds. Maybe there isnt one that suits your interest? Make your own! For more info visit https://atuva.student.virginia.edu Fraternities and Sororities Both hold formal recruitment upon return from Winter Break. You must register to rush prior to Winter Break. For more info visit www.virginia.edu/fsl Athletics - Club & Intramural Sports (IM Sports) Club sports hold tryouts in the Fall but there is always an opportunity to be involved in intramural sports. Many people will start an IM team with their hall in thier dorm. You can sign up for IM sports and nd out the schedule for Club sports tryouts through the Aquatic Fitness Center. For more info visit www.virginia.edu/ims Free Tickets for Drama and Music Full time UVA students can reserve one complimentary ticket for every performance of the six mainstage Drama Department events. As for the certain Music Department events, you can also get a free ticket as long as you reserve it online in advanced through the UVA Arts Box O ce. Go Outdoors!
Hike Humpback or Old Rag Its something everybody does at some point...go early in the morning to see a spectacular sunrise and some great views. The hike is a little less than 2 miles and the trailhead is located o the Blue Ridge Parkway. Old Rag Mountain is more challenging and just north of Charlottesville. Wintergreen Resort This mountain resort features skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice-skating, golf and tennis. Carters Mountain Orchard In the Fall, this is the perfect place to pick apples and other vegetables. Dont forget to try the apple donuts...theyre addicting. James River and Bluehole Ready for a dip? If you are looking to cool o during the warmer months go to the James River. Out tters like James River Runners and James River Reeling and Rafting o er activites like canoeing, kayaking, rafting, innertubing and shing. Bluehole is another option, a natural swimming hole where you can cool o with friends. Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive Skyline Drive is just a 30 minute drive from Charlottesville and can be accessed by taking 64 West to 250 E and immediately turning onto Skyline Drive. If you feel like hiking or bakcpacking, Shenandoah has over 500 miles of trails. Really, really like the outdoors? Join the Outdoors at UVA Club!
