GulfSea BD Gear Oils

Product Description
GulfSea BD Gear Oils are a range of environmentally sensitive, high performance, Extreme Pressure gear oils based on fully saturated esters with a high degree of renewability.

Applications
The GulfSea BD Gear Oil range is designed for use in sensitive marine environments, where there is potential for fluid loss to occur and has a high degree of renewability. Typical applications include thrusters and CPPs.

Features
GulfSea BD Gear Oils are designed for exceptionally wide operating temperature ranges, protecting equipment from -25C to over 100C. A highly stable top-tier lubricant that provides superior oxidation protection under severe conditions. It is not prone to oxidative thickening thereby ensuring a longer service life. GulfSea BD Gear Oils do not contain viscosity index improvers and will not shear down in use. They exhibit excellent water separation, extended fluid lifetime, high EP protection and low wear. GulfSea BD Gear Oils have good compatibility with common sealing materials including Nitrile and Viton . Miscible with common mineral based gear oils, but old oils should be drained completely to avoid any risk of additive incompatibility. It is also recommended that water content should not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%). Any free water must be separated off on a regular basis as these oils DO NOT emulsify. GulfSea BD Gear Oils achieve a biodegradability of greater than 60% in the 28 day OECD 301B test, and are considered practically non-toxic in the marine environment based on the following results: Fish LC50 exceeds 100 mg/l Daphnia EC50 exceeds 100 mg/l Algae EC50 exceeds 100 mg/l

Benefits
Exceptional anti-wear and resistance to micro-pitting Excellent thermal stability Superior oxidation resistance under severe conditions and not prone to oxidation thickening, ensuring a longer service life. Excellent water separation if contaminated due to excellent demulsification properties. Will not shear down in service resulting in an extended fluid life.

Performance
Very good anti-wear performance in four ball wear and load / weld tests and good performance in Timken load testing and Falex Pin and Vee continuous load testing. Very good FZG Scuffing performance ( LS14), and very good FZG micropitting (Grey staining) performance in FVA 54 tests, (LS>10, GFT high). These tests are required for effective gear performance. Meets all requirements of DIN 51517:2 type CL lubricating oils. Meets all requirements of US Steel 224 (AISE 224). Meets all the requirements of ISO 12925-1 CKD.

Compatibility
Miscible with mineral oil but, recommended that the previous oil be fully drained. Compatibility to similar mineral based gear oils has been established with two common post-production corrosion inhibitors and alkyd paint. Epoxy based paints are compatible. Compatible with standard NBR, HNBR, FKM seal elastomers and PTFE. Compatible with PU80 and PU90 polyurethane samples as tested, but testing of specific grades is advised. Limited compatibility with neoprene at high temperatures.
