Philip Eric arrived Tuesday, March 7 at 9:20 p.m., bom here in Belem at People's Maternity Hospital. He was 21 inches long and weighed 8 lbs 6 oz. Pat got along fine. I stayed in the room with her and the baby each night. My brother Norman & family kept Sara. Our family was in church the first Sunday and Sunday night after Philip's birth.

The Bible correspondence courses have really been flour Seemingly, the most successful distribu tion is done by Christian people in their own neighborhoods. Brazilian people are much more ready to study the lessons if they know the person who is inviting them to participate. One man enrolled over 280 and is still going. This method also provides for a closer contact with the student, especially after he terminates the course and is invited to study three "follow-up" lessons. The aim of these lessons is that the student make a personal commitment to Christ, Decisions have already been made and several people have been baptized as a result of these lessons.

I have finished the series with one woman, Antonia, age 29, who bought a Bible, and I believe will make that "biggest decision" soon. There are 13 others that I am teaching at the present time.

MISSIONARY
CONFERENCE
It appears that I failed to say much about the January missionary conference in the last newsletter. Sorry. The conference was real good-providing acquaintance with the various missionaries> and inspiring cuid instructive sessions

and I sang a duet, "Without Him," at one session. That was the only special music at the whole conference! Present at the conference were 22 couples 7, men, 48 children and 10
visitors.
MISSIONARIES COME AND GO
Two missionary familiesthe David Baylesses cind the Dale Masonsare leaving for furlough on J\ane 3. This will leave a big gap in the work. Three missionairy families are to ar rive this year. The Gary Meyers family is to retiim to Belem in Septanber Gajry will be a big help on the followup. Lonnie Bennett, a printer, S family, from Ohio, are to arrive this summer. * Pat is studying Portuguese again. A Christian girl who speaks,both english and Portuguese is teaching her on Tuesdays and Thursdays. * Youth retreat February 15 was a great success. 54 youth were present for program of recreation s classes, held at a beautiful club. Another retreat is planned for July.
