LAST TWO DIGITS OF A NUMBER LAST TWO DIGITS OF A NUMBER If we divide 5678 by 100, what is the Remainder? Obviously our answer will be 78. Last two digits of 5678 are also 78. So if we divide any number by 100, the remainder is nothing but last two digits. I have broken up this method into four parts: a) Number ending with 1: Example 1: Find the last 2 digits of 41^56. Here unit digit is 1. Now, multiply the 10s digit of the number with the last digit of exponent 41^86 => 4 * 6 = 24 => 4 is the 10s digit. So, last 2 digits are => 41. Example 2: Find the last 2 digits of 81^2897. Last two digits will be 61 (8*7 =56) Example 3: Find the last 2 digits of 894531^2432897. Last two digits depends upon the multiplication of last two digits only so it does not matter how many digits are there in the number : 894531^2432897 => 31^2432897 , so last two digit will be 11 ( 3*7 = 21) b) Number ending with 9 : Example 1 : Find the last 2 digits of 59^56. (Power is even) 59^56 = (100-41)^56 => 41^56. Now it ends with 1. So the last two digit is 41.(As discussed above) Example 2 : Find the last 2 digits of 59^53. (Power is odd) 59^53 = (100-41)^53 => - 41^53. Now it ends with 1. So the remainder is - 21(4*3 = 12). Since negative remainder is - 21 , Convert this to positive by taking the 100's complement i.e. 100 - 21 =79 . so the last two digit is 79. c) Number ending with 3, 7 : If you take a square of any number ending with 3 or 7, it always ends with 9. Now you can apply the previous method. Example 1 : Find the last 2 digits of 33^56. (power is even) 33^56 = (33^2)^28 => 1089^28 => 89^28 => 11^28 => . Now it ends with 1. So the last two digit is 81. Example 2 : Find the last 2 digits of 37^59. (power is odd) 37^65 = 37 * (37^2)^32 =>37 * 3969^32 => 37 * 69^32 => 37 * 31^32 => 37 * 61 = 2257. So the last two digit is 57.

d) Number ending with 5 : If you take any power (greater than 0ne) of any number ending with 25,45,65,85, last two digits is always 25. If you take any even power of number ending with 15,35,55,75,95, last two digit is always 25. If you take any odd power(greater than one) of number ending with 15,35,55,75,95, last two digit is always 75. e) Number ending with 2, 4, 6, or 8: There is only one even two-digit number which always ends with itself (last two digits) i.e. 76.It means 76 raised to any power gives the last two digits as 76. Therefore, our purpose is to get 76 as last two digits for even numbers. We also need to remember that, (2^10)^even power= last two digits will be 76 (2^10)^odd power= last two digits will be 24. Example 1: Find the last 2 digits of 2^80= (2^10) ^8 = (2^10) ^even power= last two digits are 76 Example 2: Find the last 2 digits of 4^65= 2^130= (2^10) ^13 = (2^10) ^odd power= last two digits are 24. Example 3: Find the last 2 digits of 2^165= (2^10) ^16 * 2^5 = (2^10) ^even power * 2^5= 76 *32 = 32. Now for every other even number, break the number in even * odd ..and then find the last two digits of both the numbers with the help of above explained methods. Triangles constructed out of these n vertices will be of three types: i. Having two sides common with the polygon ii. Having one side common with the polygon iii. Having no side common with the polygon The total number of triangles would be n C3. i. Having two sides common with the polygon Out of total n vertices, any combination of three consecutive vertices will give us the triangle which has two sides common = n. ii. Having one side common with the polygon Number of selection of three vertices out of which two are consecutive = n * (n-4)C1 iii. Having no side common with the polygon = n C3 n - n * (n-4)C1 9. Total number of letters = 12. Words of six letters are to be formed. The total number of words of 6 letters when any letter may be repeated any number of times = 12*12*12*12*12*12 = 126

Number of words of 6 letters when no letter is repeated = 12P6 So, number of words of 6 letters which have at least one letter repeated = 126 12P6 10. Standard result. No need to derive. 11. Answer is 6!7 The average speed of a train in the onward journey is 25% more than that in the return journey. The train halts for one hour on reaching the destination. The total time taken for the complete to and fro journey is 17 hrs, covering a distance of 800km. The speed of the train in the onward journey is: a)45 km/h b) 47.5 km/h C) 52km/h D)56.25 km/h avg speed over the journey is 800/16 = 50 km/h. lets say speed during return journey =v , then forward journey speed = 5/4 v . so avg speed is harmonic mean of these two speeds as distance is constant . so it turns out to be 10/9 v =50 . calculating we get v= 45 , so onward journey speed is 5/4 v = 56.25 km/h 1.
