Clean sweeps again for Facciotti, Wilson and Cooke

Round 2 of the 2009 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals at Wild Rose MX Park in
Calgary, AB turned out to be a repeat of the opening round, with clean sweeps for Colton
Facciotti in MX1, Dean Wilson in MX2, and Heidi Cooke in the Women’s Pro Nationals.

For Toyota Yamaha Blackfoot Red Bull Fox Racing’s Colton Facciotti it was business as
usual as he dominated both motos, making it look easy in the process. Adding the icing
on the cake for Calgary-based Blackfoot Racing was the second overall recorded by
Facciotti’s teammate Dusty Klatt. Klatt, who cleared the task on the strength of 3-2
motos, also duplicated his Round 1 results as did Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki’s
Paul Carpenter, with 2-3 motos for third overall.

Once Facciotti took control from Carpenter, who pegged the first moto holeshot to lead
for a brief period, the race was a done deal. Klatt eventually put on a charge to displace
Carpenter from second spot but he was having trouble finding the right lines trying to
pass other riders before he was able to chase down the American. Carpenter’s cousin and
Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki teammate, Jack Carpenter, more or less rode his own
race to finish fourth ahead of Rockstar Suzuki OTSFF’s Tyler Medaglia.

Medaglia had settled into a comfortable fifth place after a good start until he was passed
by his teammate and younger brother Jeremy Medaglia. But with three laps to go the
younger Medaglia, who had charged through the pack after a bad start, had little left in
him and was repassed by Tyler as well as Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki’s Bobby
Kiniry.

In the second moto, Klatt nailed the holeshot but once again a super motivated Facciotti
wasted little time to take the lead. Klatt stayed with his teammate till about the 20 minute
mark, dropped back a bit, and then spent the rest of the moto keeping Paul Carpenter
behind him. This time Tyler Medaglia, after another good start, finished fourth while
Kiniry, who had to claw his way through the pack, finished fifth. Medaglia carded fourth
overall for his effort; Kiniry sealed the top five.

In the volatile MX2 class, Canidae Motorsport Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson
again towered head and shoulders above the competition to convincingly win both motos.
In the first moto, he quickly took the lead and left the chase group behind him. Leading
Edge Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier finished a distant second ahead of Toyota
Yamaha Blackfoot Red Bull Fox Racing’s Aron Harvey, Royal Distributing KTM’s Kyle
McGlynn, and Monster Energy Thor Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Brock Hoyer
respectively.

In the second moto, Wilson took command of the moto around the fifth lap and basically
checked out again. Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Nick Evennou, who along with Harvey ran
in the top five for the entire moto, would go on to finish second. Harvey claimed second
overall on the day thanks to his 3-3 motos. Evennou, who finished seventh in moto one,
snagged third overall.

McGlynn, riding another consistent moto, ended fifth behind Harvey’s teammate Kyle
Beaton, taking fourth overall in the process. Rounding out the top five overall was Maier
who finished ninth in the second moto. Beaton, still suffering from a first round hand
injury, rose to the occasion to finish seventh overall, after finishing 12th in the first moto.

In the Royal Distributing Women’s Nationals Presented by Suzuki, Monster Energy

Cernics Kawasaki’s Heidi Cooke ensured that Calgary was a total rerun of Kamloops as
far as the battle for first place. She took no prisoners and raced her own race to
convincingly win both motos. Rockstar Suzuki OTSFF’s Jocelyn Killough again claimed
second overall on the day, this time on the strength of 2-2 motos. Denaye Giroux (Yam)
sealed the podium with third on the strength of 4-3.
