Welcome to Goravani Jyotish version 1.91 ! Follow the easy instructions below. Here's the easy steps: 1.

Export charts/readings if upgrading (if you want) 2. Delete old version (or rename it's directory) 3. Reboot machine 4. Run the installer (run "Install" on the CD) 5. Run the program 6. Import charts/readings if you exported any (applies only to those who are upgrading) Do Not: 1. Don't run other programs after restarting until installation finished 2. Don't leave the old version on your machine or at least rename it's directory first. Possible Bugs After Installing *** FONTS If you get SINGLE LETTERS where the PLANETS SHOULD BE, or if THINGS ARE CUT OFF then reinstall the fonts. Also, if you have Windows 3.1 still, then you MUST install the fonts. If you are running Windows 95 then you should be fine if you reboot after the installation, if not, reinstall the fonts. Here's how the fonts are installed or re-installed. First, understand that we have placed a directory (folder) inside the Goravani folder called "Fonts". This folder/directory contains a few fonts called: ACCUMON ACCUSHI ACCUJEN JYOTISH GARAMOND These fonts are needed for the program to function and look correct on screen. In Windows, both 3.1 and 95, fonts have to be given to system, but in two different ways. In Windows 95 there's just a fonder which you put them in, which is simple, but in Windows 3.1 you have to use a "Control Panel" to install them, by going through a few steps. In both versions, it's a good idea to first "remove" any current copies of the fonts already installed before attempting to install the new ones since it will not let you install "over" old copies. If you are a brand new user of Goravani Jyotish, then you obviously won't have old copies of our fonts to remove, so you can ignore this next paragraph. To check for and remove old copies of our fonts: Windows 95 Users: Just open the Fonts folder by going Start to Settings to Control Panels and double click the fonts folder. View it by details, then sort it alphabetically by clicking the

little grey fonts, then remove them your delete

button at the top of the list above the names of the find our fonts (any of those listed above) and by deleting them (click once on each and hit key).

Windows 3.1 Users: Open the Main or Accessories group and find your control panels icon. Double click it. Double click on the Fonts control panel. A list of installed fonts will appear. Hilite and remove or delete any or all of the fonts that we LISTED ABOVE and NONE OTHER. Be careful not to delete other fonts. Installing the fonts: Windows 95 Users: Simply open either Windows Explorer or My Computer, then your hard drive where our directory/folder is (the Goravani directory or whatever you named it) and then open the "Fonts" folder within our program's directory. Position it on one side of your screen and close other windows to remove clutter. Then, pull up the Start menu to Settings, then Control Panels, then to Fonts, and a window of fonts will open. These are the fonts installed in the system. Position this "System Fonts" window on the other side of your screen. Now you should be looking at both side by side. Drag the 5 fonts from OUR fonts folder over and into the System's Fonts folder. This installs them. Reboot and you're done. Windows 3.1 Users: If you still have the fonts control panel open, great! If not, open it again by opening the control panels then clicking on the Fonts control panel. Now that you have it open, click on Add. A window appears. Navigate in the lower left navigational area to your directory, possibly C:\GORAVANI and open it, double click on it. Then you should see the Fonts folder within the list because it is inside the Goravani directory (or whatever you named it when installing). Once you see the Fonts folder inside the Goravani directory, double click on it and the Font names previously mentioned will appear in the list. After this happens, click "Select All" and then close the Window with OK or Closewhichever is available. You can now close any open windows. You're done! *** ACS ATLAS The program now links to this popular atlas which many of you already have and use with other programs. If you don't have it, you can buy it from us. If you don't have it and are not going to purchase it, you don't have to read this. If you have it, or ONCE you have it, you have to do the following to make it work: Move the file called "ACSATLAS.DLL" from the ACS directory within our directory to the "External" directory within our directory. Then re-launch the program. Then, go to Preferences and the "Other Preferences" window where there is a choice in the lower right which is where you have to click to indicate that you have and wish to use the ACS Atlas with Goravani Jyotish. Once doing that, click Save. You are now ready to use it. When entering charts, you type in a few letters of the city name, and optionally the state or country. The ACS Atlas windows will appear if necessary to confirm your

selection, and it will fill in the daylight savings/war time data field as well as the longitude, latitude and time zone information, all quite automatically. *** PRINTING PROBLEMS Due to the large number of printer types in the PC world, and all the varying dates of drivers for them released by all their many manufacturers, some being Windows 95 aware, some not, it happens that some of our PC/Windows users experience printing problems. If this happens to you, I just want to apologize in advance that there is usually little we can do about it, but the good news is that most users have been able to work these problems out themselves so far. They usually either get new or more recent printer drivers, or older drivers (whatever it takes right?) or change the resolution in the printer's setup area, or adjust other things. Sometimes it has helped for them to select "Page Setup" under the File Menu in our program and thereon confirm the correct settings for paper size etc. Since we're mentioning it, the correct paper size is always "US Letter" which is also known by it's size: 8 and a half, by 11 inches. Selecting other sizes leads sometimes to "cut off" problems. This is so especially in countries other than the US where other paper sizes are the standard and printers are often setup for A4, Legal Size or others. Dear Friends, Greetings! This version, 1.91, is of course my best effort yet. It includes many important fixes of bugs found by us here in the office, and by some of you. I'm happy to see, as I'm sure you will be, long-time nagging issues like mean nodes, Sripati Bhava Chakra, Sunrise/Set Times, Windows 95 close boxes, and other things handled at last. Most importantly, you can now enter charts back to year 0001 with accuracy, and the whole installation has shrunk by a number of megabytes. I'm also happy to report that we finally have the ACS Atlas link for the PC (and the Mac on the way), Printable Transit Charts, entry fields now arranged similar to all other programs (lat before long), all the US hospitals atlas in every copy of the software, a greatly improved atlas lookup where you type a few letters and it finds instantly all the near matches in the atlas, lordship readings by Bhava Chakra house placements option, Mean/True Nodes choice, Nodes travelling direct indicators, some new reports, Daylight Saving Time awareness built in for all dates since 1967, local rising times printout/window for all planets, color charts module fully integrated into the program for all users, a wider ephemeris range shipping in the program 1880-2040 (get anything else you need by calling), greatly improved readings text thanks to two editors working for two weeks solid. Furthermore, you can print many charts at once now, Koch houses on Western Charts is now an option, there's a couple new printouts "Similar Famous Charts" and "Chart Summary", the later being a listing of what the basic placements are in plain English- good for handing out to totally un-astro-savvy chart clients, I've given you our own introduction cover sheets that we use here when we sell

printed charts (these files are in the program directory in both word and text file format). The date and time that a printout was printed is now printed on the reports so that you can track "versions" of printouts and not be confused by possible duplicates printed at different times. I shortened most reports for the PC users who were losing lines at the bottom. 06-24-1996 Eugene Oregon *** NEW FEATURES AND FIXES IN THIS VERSION **** Below are descriptions of the main things that were achieved in this version. I hope you like this new version. David Frawley's "Astrology of the Seers" included The book titled "The Astrology of the Seers" by David Frawley has been added to the program into the reference window. A menu on the main menu window also allows for easy selection of the books various chapters for reading. This new addition will greatly help newcomers especially, giving them easy access to David's expert instruction onscreen. 2000 Famous charts in archive The Penfield collection is being added to Goravani Jyotish. 2,000 (roughly) chart data records for famous people can now be found in the archive for your use. Another roughly 1000 will be added in the future. Additionally, roughly 1000 charts of cities and coutries can also be found there. The new Manual put into Online Help system The new manual has been added to the programs online reference section, replacing the old outdated manual which was there before. New Online Manual "Teacher" You will see a pop up list of topics from the new Manual available as a pop up menu entitled "Teacher" on the Main Menu windows as well as all the various chart windows in the program. Access this pop up menu by pointing at it and holding down the mouse button. Then, select a topic from the list and the reference window will appear showing that topic. Once on the reference window, you can easily switch to other topics by clicking on the list of topics there. The Following changes were added in 1.89 and befor: Switch to Planetary Calculations Previously Goravani Jyotish employed a disk based interpolated ephemeris which made the program larger. Now, the planetary positions are all calculated which means

no more need for the large disk based ephemeris. The new planetary calculations are very accurate- drawn from the best possible source of astronomical calculations. The program consequently requires less diskettes to ship and less hard disk space to install, but is slightly more accurate. Good news overall! The new calculations give me access to new information as well- on top of the usual Geocentric longitude (which is what we mainly use in charts) I also now know the Heliocentric longitude, which is the position of the bodies as seen from the Sun, the velocity, distance, and a few more things. Wider Ephemeris Range The best news about the new calculations is that they give you reach back to year 0001 and way into the future. How far is untested, but I think you'll be fine for a long long time. You can now therefore enter charts for the last 1900 years. Actually, I can go further with it, and in a future upgrade I will add capability to go back 6,000 years. There are three features which did not yet get fully in tune with the part of this upgrade which reaches back to year 0001. That is, Varshaphal, Yogini Dasha, and Chara dasha. These three features will not allow themselves to be used on birthdates prior to 1901. You are therefore limited to this century on those features at this time. This can be remedied, and will be in a future update. Dasha Ranges Just a quick word on the Vimshottari dasha range possibilities: The dashas in Goravani Jyotish run for a maximum of 400 years from the birthdate at this time, but actually you are not guaranteed more than 280 years from the date of birth. So, if you enter a chart where the birthdate is before 280 years ago, the dashas may not extend all the way to the present time, but will be accurate for the period they cover, namely up to 280 to 400 years after the birthdate. This is so if you turn OFF the "trim dashas" feature on the "Other Preferences" window. If you turn ON "trim dashas" then the reach is guranteed only up to 120 years after the date of birth. Let me know if you NEED dashas for dates prior to 280 years ago extending up to and beyond the present time. Dasha Bug Fixed In 1.87 and 1.88 the dashas, if calculated for a chart prior to 1901 were not correct. This has been fixed. Tertiery Progressed Stations Report Now More Accurate The Tertiery Progressed Stations report, a technique widely popularized due to the book "The Astrology of Death" by Richard Houck, has been greatly improved due to the new

planetary routines. This technique requires finding out when planets stationed "stood still" for the first 1300 or so days after the birth, and then multiplying each day between the birth and each station, by the monthly Moon orbital figure, which is just over 27 days. This calculation gives dates in the future (throughout the life) which supposedly are affected by these stations that took place during our first 3 years or so. It's an interesting technique that requires calculative accuracy of great precision to do it correctly. Previously my program could not, due to it's ephemeris structure, provide this feature with much accuracy. Now however, due to implementing the new planetary routines, this report has become highly accurate. New Planet's Stations Report Under "Print"-"Miscellaneous" in the charts area you will find the Stations Report (Pro version only) which lists the stations of the planets, the tropical and siderial zodiac position they were in when they stationed as well as the star, it's lord and sub lord, and the navamsa they were in, and of course the date and exact. Transit Charts Now Print You can now print transit charts from the transit window. You will see two new options at the bottom of the "Options" menu on the transits windows. One option says "Print color chart" and the other is for Black and White. The transit chart prints as you see it on the window- with the subject Rasi on the inner wheel or box, and the transit on the outer wheel or box. Many users have asked for this, and we are glad it is finally available. Entry fields rearanged The fields for entering chart data have been rearranged in a more natural order. First of all, the longitude and latitude were switched around. Up until now it seems that most other programs have latitude first, then longitude, so I've succumbed to what seems to be the standard. Secondly, the city name field now comes first, because it does an automatic find in the cities file after you type a city name, or first part of the name, and hit tab or return. You can now more easily take advantage of the improved atlas functions. Also, on the large entry windows the birth data now preceeds the current address data. ACS Atlas Link on PC Goravani Jyotish under Windows ONLY now links to the ACS atlas program. A new file called ACSATLAS.DLL is now shipped with the program at no extra charge. The Mac Version is currently getting it's link and that will be available in the next upgrade. The ACS atlas is a third party software product that you can buy from us, or other ACS

(Astro Communications Services) distributors. The ACS atlas is the best atlas resource available not only because it has all the cities in the US and most worldwide, but also and mainly because it has the most complete time tables for each area going back in history. Getting the time zone as well as things like war time and daylight saving time correct is absolutely necessary for doing correct astrology. Therefore, the ACS atlas, being the only computerized source for this information in a very complete way is the best atlas resource around. However, it costs significanlty at around $200 for the US and another $100 for the rest of the world (roundedrough prices). We are going to be selling these as a distrubutor as of now. Once you have the ACS atlas your one copy will work with most major astrology software programs. I think I am one of the last to link to it, not first. Most other programs already do this essential link up. Anyway, now we have it at long last. If you already have a program, be it Western or Vedic, which already knows the correct daylight saving time settings for all dates as well as seems to have all the US cities within it, or the world for that matter, then you may ALREADY HAVE the ACS atlas on your system. Some programs come with it, and others come with a "mini-version" of it, which we will also link to. So, maybe look into what you have already before buying new. If the money for the ACS atlas is not something you're going to consider, then reading the next section should be good news as we have greatly improved our programs own, built in, already free atlas capabilities including making every city in the US available to you. This applies to the Mac and Windows versions. Atlas / Cities Now Much Easier to Use The atlas feature is improved in this version in many ways. One way in which it is improved is that you now get an instant pop up window of cities from the atlas that match your first few letters of input in the birth city entry field. If you enter a state abreviation or first letter of the country name this further refines the search. No matter what you type, a window appears where you can enter the first few letters of city names and instantly see a list of cities that match what you type. You can enter Oa-U for all cities that begin with "Oa" in countries that begin with "U" and this will, for example, bring up Oakridge and Oakland in the USA. If there was a city beginning with "Oa" in "USSR" that would appear too as it matches the search criteria. Similarly if you type San-TX then you'll get San Antonio Texas, and any other cities that begin with "San" in Texas. The old buttons for the US Map and the new US Hospitals button still appear as well. I added the entire database of US Hospitals with their exact longitudes and latitudes (to all versions of this update). So, if somebody knows what hospital they were born at, you can nail down their birth location pretty exactly. It's an easy to use window too- type a few letters of a city name and all hospitals in cities starting with those letters appear- click- select-boom. Then, I also increased dramatically the size of the database of cities worldwide and added all their accurate time zones, whereas previously many time zones were missing. The CD version

on both platforms carries on it a large file containing all the populated places (cities) in the US. There is a utility under File-Tools-Atlas Management-Import US Cities File which allows you to import this large file if you want it. If you have, or plan on getting, the ACS US or World Atlas, then DO NOT import this file as the ACS US atlas includes this and more. The ACS atlas is the best you can get, but if you don't want to pay for it (as it is expensive) then you may wish to import this file so that at most (for the US) you will only have to lookup the definite and correct Daylight Time situation. Planets/Placidus House Cusps Nakshatra Lords/Subs Tags For those using the Krishnamurti system of Vedic Astrology who wish to enter their own readings or yogas, these new tags are necessary. They include the nakshatra lords and sub lords for all the planets plus the placidus house cusps (which is the house system used in the Krishnamurti system). These new tags read as follows for example: ASCSTARLKETU.........the ascendents star lord is Ketu MARSSTARSUBLJUP......Mars' star sub lord is Jup 1STPLCUSPSTARLKETU...1st house placidus cusp star lord Ketu 4THPLCUSPSTARSUBLJUP.4th house placidus cusp sub lord Jupiter The above 4 types of tags repeat for all the planets and houses. There are no readings in our system currently which use these tags. However, they will be used by the research module starting immediately and those interested can now enter readings which will access these. An example reading tag might be: TAG: /SUNSTARLKETU/SUNIN1/SUNINARI/1STPLCUSPSTAR LKETU/ READING: One who has the Sun under Ashvini in the 1st house and the ascendent also there will shine as a leader like none other possibly can. Tag Viewing Window There is now a window in the Charts area of the program, professional version, which shows the tags for a chart. By having this available, those who are serious about entering their own readings will have a direct channel to see and know which tags are actually available and working for their use. The list of tags is roughly 3,500 entries long and is sorted alphabeticly. Bhava Chakras Improved The Sripati Bhava Chakra is now really a Sripati Bhava

Chakra and not a Porphyry wheel. The Equal Bhava Chakra has been added back. You can now set which between Sripati, Equal and Placidus is your default Bhava Chakra Choice which is what will appear when you click the little "B" buttons on the chart windows (B for Bhava). Lordship tags & readings by Bhava Up until now the program calculated lordship placements in the chart according to only the Rasi Chakra, or main sign based chart, which is considered the central chart in Vedic Astrology. However, planets sometimes switch to other houses when viewed in any of the popular Bhava Chart systems, of which Goravani Jyotish offers now three, the Equal Bhava, the Sripati Bhava, and the Placidus Bhava. The latter is especially interesting to those who follow the Krishnamurti system. In any case, you can now elect to have the placement of the houses of the planets be based upon your selected bhava chakra system, which can be any of the above three. Once you have selected that, then the planets are considered "in the house" that they are in within the bhava chart. This affects the readings selected for the chart as "Sun in the 2nd" is going to be different from "Sun in the 3rd". Putting Famous People in Their Place! In previous versions, ever since I added the database of famous people's links, I didn't like the way all these famous people were at the top of the list. It used to be more useful to me personally when I could see who amongst the people I really knew well had the reading I was hiliting. So now I added a way for you to have a line and designate if you want the famous people "below the line" in the "who has it" list. This is a helpful new little improvement. Mean/True Nodes You can now choose between Mean and True Nodes. New Report-Planet List Data The feature that was added to 1.87 the view in the planet list on the corresponding report. You can now the following menu path: Print to Planet Info". DST/Danger Zone Awareness The program is now Daylight Savings Time aware BUT ONLY FOR the limited range of April 1967 to the year 2000 and only for the United States. You still have to have the ACS Atlas and look up all other dates. But at least this is a helpful start. Also, it warns you to check time zones for the time-zone-split-states such as the Dakotas because the freely whereby you can switch charts windows now has a print this report under Miscellaneous to "Various

available databases of cities with long/lat do not provide the time zone of each city- therefore, in split states it is still up to you to look it up. Windows 95 Close Boxes Users will now be glad to see that there are at least "substitute" close boxes on all the windows whereas before they couldn't close most windows. Transit Window Doesn't "Die" The fact that using the "Repeat" feature on the transits windows killed the date entry field has been fixed. Create Many from Archive In 1.87, using the Create Many Charts on the Archive window didn't work- now fixed. 360/365 Labels The labels for 365 verse 360 day dashas on a number of reports didn't work right- now fixed. Rainbows, the color print program, has been incorporated into the main program. You can now find the color reports as a sub menu under the Print menu in the charts window. There is no longer going to be a separate color print program called Goravani Rainbows. This change significantly increases the size of the main program meaning that it now comes on more disks than before. Those of you who do not have color printers can at least print these beautiful reports to screen to view them. Everyone should note: These reports take alot of memory to print, even to the screen. Color images are memory hogs in any program. So, if you have a machine with limited RAM memory, you may get a real slow experience when attempting to show or print these, and you may even get messages telling you that you are low on memory. Don't let these messages worry you- it won't hurt anything if you get them. Those of you with 16 meg PC's won't have a problem, and those of you with 16 meg macs, if you set the memory partition to say 8 megs for Goravani Jyotish (on the "Get Info" window in the Finder) won't have a problem. I hope you like these color reports! Letter for Planets on the PC Northern Chart Windows was reduced from 12 point to 10 point as they were not fitting in their spaces correctly and were looking a little cut off. This has been corrected. Now all the viewing modes be it glyphs or letters appear correctly. Time Zones The time zones field label is now a raised button and if clicked at any time will pop up a window listing the time

zones of the world. You can select by time zone letters or by names of countries. For handy reference, it also gives the country codes used when dialing phone numbers in those countries. Print Many Charts at once You can now select any number of charts in the list of charts and select a report group, either "My main set" or any group you have previously defined. The selected report set will print for all the selected charts. This only applies to report sets. If you just want a single chart page to print, or any single report, then define a report set with just that single report selected. Find Command bug fixed In 1.87, if you clicked "Find" you fixed. Jaimini Karakas dissapeared from most reports in 1.87, but and back. Koch houses as an option for the Western Wheel Charts. Export readings to WP edit file and the corresponding "Import WP edit file" didn't work because the import fields were in the wrong order. This has been fixed. New Printout: Similar Famous Charts This is perhaps current to hand similar to something already in, but easier, smaller, more to the point. It lists the famous charts the chart has most in common with. Single Page. Nice out- most people would get a kick out of it. now they're fixed got an error. This is

New Report: Chart Summary This is really basic, plain English what is rising sign, you have plain English so that Introduction Forms: I have written a newer version of my "Introduction to your chart" papers, and they are included on disk for you to modify and use Reports Shortened Some PC users were experiencing print outs getting cut off at their ends- single lines carrying over onto the next page, etc. An attempt has been made to correct this. Most reports, but basic can be important. It lists in basically in the chart- ie- this is your Sun in the second house in Taurus- just anybody can know "what they have".

especially the PC versions were shortened a bit to prevent this. I would appreciate being told about specific ones which still do this after this upgrade if any still exist- and I'll handle them. Sunrise and Sunset Times More Accurate Previous to this version the sunrise and sunset times were not very exact. Now they are exact. I compared a number of charts done with this improvement to the same charts entered into one competitor's program and found the results to be the same on average with variations usually within 1 minute of clock time, and at the extreme I occasionally saw variations at most of 2 minutes of clock time. This seems acceptable to me. If not, let me know as with a good bit of work it can be made to be even more exact.
