INRTODUCTION
My name is and I have been recently appointed the general manager of Alvarion Limited. Alvarion Limited is a 4G communications company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company manufactures and exports a range of network solutions, including WiMAX, IEEE, PtMP, TD-LTE and WiFi to service providers and enterprises covering a variety of industries such as mobile broadband, residential and business broadband, utilities, municipalities and public safety agencies. During my tenure as the general manager of Alvarion Limited, I intend to review the past performance of the company, the current operations and liaise with my subordinates and the Board of Directors on improving the company services and introduction of new services.

SUMMARY
Operators want to deploy Next- Generation Hotspot (NGH) technology to make it easier for end users to access Wi-Fi Hotspots and replicate the cellular mobile broadband experience in terms of ease of access and security. In our Industry Survey, of those respondents that plan to launch an NGH-compliant network, the majority (54%) plan to do so in 2013. The survey also found that the industry needs to show how operators can make a return on NGH-related investment to ensure the technology reaches its full potential.

COMPANY HISTORY
Alvarion was originally incorporated as BreezeCOM Limited in September, 1992. In March 2000 BreezeCOM had an Initial Public Offering (IPO), selling 5 million shares of its common stock at a price of $20 per share. BreezeCOM's shares were listed on the NASDAQ under the symbol BRZE.
2

In August 2001, BreezeCOM merged with another Israeli company, Floware Wireless Systems Limited. (NASDAQ: FLRE), which was founded in 1993, changing its name to Alvarion. In April 2003, Alvarion acquired InnoWave ECI Wireless Systems Ltd, from ECI Telecom. In July 2003 Alvarion signed a strategic partnership agreement with Intel to co-develop WiMAX based Broadband wireless access systems, using Intels WiMAX chips. In December 2004, Alvarion acquired interWAVE Communications International (NASDAQ:IWAV) of Mountain View, California, which expanded the companys product range into the mobile GSM equipment market and provided new expertise in mobile systems. Most of the interWAVE operations became Alvarions Cellular Mobile business unit, which was sold to LGC Wireless, Inc. in November, 2006. In February 2009, Alvarion was hired by Orange Botswana for turnkey WiMAX deployment, initially to cover Botswanas two largest cities Gaborone and Francistown. In November 2009 Alvarion started deploying a WiMAX wireless broadband network for the Australian ISP Adam Internet across metropolitan Adelaide, as a part of Australian governments Broadband Guarantee Program. In November 2010, Alvarion was chosen by the telecommunication company 4G Africa to deploy 4G network in Cameroon. 4G Africa has the main goal to reduce digital divide by providing selected Sub-Sahara countries with the newly established 4G technology to reduce digital divide. In November 2011, Alvarion acquired Wavion, a provider of outdoor Wi-Fi applications for metro and rural areas with deployments in more than 75 countries. This acquisition is part of Alvarions strategic plan for shifting its primary focus from WiMAX-based RAN solutions to becoming a multi-technology wireless broadband solution provider.

COMPANY STRUCTURE
BOD

PRESIDENT

As the company President, I chose a wide span of control as it is appropriate for Alvarion management. For a wide span of control: There are less layers of management to pass a message through, so the message reaches more employees faster. It cost less money to run a wide span of control because a business does not need to employ as many managers. With a few managers, decisions are reached upon faster.

MANAGEMENT
As President of Alvarion, my vision is to deliver an exceptional customer experience when it comes to Wi-Fi, one that is interoperable, seamless and secure. Wi-Fi will become a converged technology with the wireless network and customers will have the same experience agnostic of the network type.
7

My top priority is to achieve Wi-Fi roaming agreements with other operators through development of common specifications. Another key priority is to ensure compatibility across the Wi-Fi ecosystem whether its devices, networks, billing or settlement systems. Alvarion will ultimately deliver a more secure and seamless experience to all clients by driving common specifications across this ecosystem. As President, I am committed to working closely with the Technology and Engineering departments so that our devices seamlessly interact with Wi-Fi networks. As the President, I intend to join other operators in deploying NGH technology to our esteemed clients this year. I look forward to working with the Alvarion community in taking a giant leap in modern communications.

CHALLENGES
Wi-Fi has been known to be found only at Hotspots, this is synonymous to the olden days telephone booths where you could make a phone call only on a fixed booth. The Wi-Fi Hotspots are provided by different operators with no connection to each other. For Wi-Fi to realize its full potential, the industry needs a common set of agreements, standards, implementation practices and interoperability guidelines that outline how operators can easily connect with one another. One key priority is ensuring that device manufacturers are supportive and that the right technology is both in the network and on the devices to guarantee NGH compatibility. Adoption of these guidelines and standards by Alvarion and other operators across the Wi-Fi ecosystem are critical for Wi-Fi growth.

COMPANY CORPORATE RENSPONSIBILITY

In Alvarion being a leader is more than just profitability, customer service and technological investment; it's about accountability to the protection and sustainability of the environment, to the betterment of society, and to the protection and support of our employees. Over its fifteen years of enterprise, Alvarion has made an uncompromising commitment to achieving its corporate responsibility goals. This accountability is reflected in corporate management

Moreover, Alvarions products incorporate green technology to lower total cost of ownership and reduce environmental impact including:

All outdoor base station design which eliminates the need for building powered air conditioned cabinets Advanced radio technologies with MIMO, beamforming and advanced scheduling which maximizes capacity and coverage for a reduced number of base station sites Advanced radio amplifier technologies which increase efficiency and reduce power consumption

Commitment to Employee Health and Safety Alvarion has made employee health and safety a top priority and provides safe and toxin-free work environments that comply with an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS) 18001 standard to ensure continuous improvement of employee safety conditions.

Commitment to Community Alvarion believes that investment in the community is an investment in the future of our society. AlvariFund was established to encourage and enable employees to actively participate in community outreach programs through volunteer work. Originally founded to support community projects for children and adolescents at risk, it has expanded into areas such as technology education and social activity, representing an investment that is not measured by financial gain but by what Alvarion can give back to society.

CONCLUSION
The key point for operators building out their Wi-Fi business plan is to ensure that they choose the most appropriate business model for their organization, taking into account factors such as the company type and structure (mobile, fixed, integrated, cable), the existing technology and spectrum position, local market characteristics as well as their overall position from a competitive standpoint. Ultimately, the most successful players in the communications industry are likely to be those that understand and draw together a diverse range of business models to build a holistic business case. The business case should be engineered to deliver value in a number of ways against a broad set of strategic objectives and to mitigate the complex and inter-related risks tied to a given companys organizational structure and market position.
