New JBL CWT128 offers full 160 coverage

A typical challenge of many sound reinforcement applications is to provide high quality, full bandwidth sound evenly dispersed across a coverage area greater than 100 degrees. This is often addressed by mounting two speaker systems splayed to achieve wider horizontal coverage. This approach produces interference where the coverage patterns overlap (see box), resulting in uneven sound fields and compromised intelligibility. JBL engineers created an innovative solution to this problem: the CWT128 Dual 8 2-Way Loudspeaker System featuring CWT Crossfired Waveguide Technology. The CWTs compact size and footprint takes up about a third of the footprint of two speakers arranged side by side. Because one speaker can be used in-

JBL Commercial Debuts DriveCore Powered Mixer/Amplifiers

Providing even more comprehensive and cost-effective audio solutions HARMANs JBL Commercial is expanding its lineup with the introduction of five mixer/amplifiers that incorporate Crowns exclusive DriveCore amplifier technology for improved performance, lower cost, reduced size and weight and efficient operation. The DriveCore chip combines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage along with additional audio-signal functions, yet is about the size of a postage stamp. It enables significantly reduced size and weight all mixer/amps are just 1U rack space high and most models are only a half-rack wide. All models can drive 8 ohm and 4 ohm loads and can be used with 70V and 100V distributed audio systems without the need for a separate transformer. The CSMA mixer/amps offer unmatched ease of use, with a clean, front panel featuring only volume controls for each channel, master volume adjustment, adjustable bass and treble controls and a power switch. All the volume controls are surrounded by an illuminated ring, making them easy to see and operate in darkened environments. In addition to balanced mic/line inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs and speaker connections, all units include RJ45 connectors for use with JBL CSR-V inwall volume controls.

BSS BLU-Link card for Si platform

The range of option cards for the Si Series consoles has expanded with the release of new options cards from Soundcraft, BSS Audio and Riedel. BSS Audios BLU-Si Blu link card enables Soundcraft Si Expression, Si Performer and Si Compact consoles to connect to other HARMAN BLU-Link compatible devices, including the dbx PMC16 Personal Monitor Controller, BSSs Soundweb London platform, and various Crown amplifier models.

The BLU-Si card provides a 32 x 32-channel interface over a standard Cat 5e cable.

Crown DriveCore Install amplifiers ship the new standard for installed sound
Crown Audios new DriveCore Install (DCi) Series power amplifiers are shipping in the UK. Successor to the companys acclaimed CTs Series, the new DCi stereo and multichannel amplifiers incorporate a host of improvements including HARMANs exclusive DriveCore technology to set new standards in reliability, sound quality, flexibility and efficiency. At the heart of the DCi Series is the proprietary DriveCore amplifier IC chip, which combines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage along with additional audio-signal functions, yet is about the size of a postage stamp, dramatically reducing size and power consumption requirements. The DCi Series comprises of twelve models ranging from 300 watts to 600 watts (into 4 and 8 ohms and 70Vrms and 100Vrms) with 2, 4 or 8 channels per amplifier. The DCi Network models include network monitoring and control over Ethernet, BLU-Link digital audio transport, GPIO and digital signal processing. DCi Analogue amplifiers integrate into control and monitoring systems over ethernet.

Soundcraft has added the Multi Digital and Dante Cards to its offering. The Multi Digital Card has USB and FireWire interfaces for connection to a Mac or Windows computer for recording and playback, as well as ADAT optical connections and is capable of 32x inputs and 32 outputs simultaneously. The Dante Card provides Primary and Secondary ports for Audinates protocol. Riedel manufacture an interface card for connecting an Si console to their RockNet audio distribution platform. The new cards join CobraNet, Aviom, AES and MADI options already available from Soundcraft.

Installers turn to JBL CBT70

Designed for venues that would typically use larger point-andshoot speakers, JBLs CBT70J loudspeakers incorporate technical advancements that allows them to vastly outperform competitive systems, with a level of user-friendliness that virtually eliminates the challenges of delivering great sound. The CBT70J models have the ability handle both speech and full range, high-power music applications with spectacular levels of fidelity while the asymmetric horizontal coverage assures even coverage from front to back. The CBT series is particularly suited to tackling difficult acoustic spaces and as audio installers and AV integrators - who have been using the range with great success to solve the typically complex challenges presented in houses of worship - have found.
