Various Useful MHFU Armor Sets

I figured I was becoming a broken record, constantly advertising my various useful MHFU armor sets (Ooh, he said it! He said the name of the blog!). So, I figured I'd just refer people to it, should they ever need suggestions for good sets to take on whatever quests that are giving them trouble. All skills and armor names are spelled as they are in the game, to reduce any confusion (I hope).

Geef to me joor flesh!

Rathalos Soul Cap Z (Master Jewel) Diablo Mail Z (Artisan Jewel x2) RathSoulVambracesZ (Master Jewel) Diablo Coil Z (Earplug Jewel, Expert Jewel) RathalosSoulGreavesZ (Celebrity Jewel) High Grade Earplug, Reckless Abandon +2, and Sharpness +1. The ultimate armor set (in my opinion). This armor is great for any weapon, and I use it on everything but dragons. It has -10 Dragon, so it makes me uneasy. My friends use it on whatever, and they seem fine with it, but I'm a just-in-case kinda guy. Also, notice I put "Cap" and not "Helm." The cap gives three slots, more Expert, and more HearProtct. This set, combined with the Magnitude hammer, single-handedly got me through nearly every hunt at HR9 (solo'd all the Epic Hunts with it). The power is practically unrivaled, I cannot stress that enough. Note: High Grade Earplug assures you will never b e affected b y any roar... Well, except mayb e Tigrex's, Rajang's, Akantor's, or Ukanlos'. Their roars have a shockwave of sorts that sends you flying. Reckless Ab andon increases the Affinity of your weapon. Affinity is b asically a Critical attack; when it kicks in, you do 25% more damage for that one attack. It's signified b y a b right red X during your attack. If you have negative Affinity however, its activation is signified b y a dark purple X, and causes that attack to do 25% less damage. Sharpness +1 increases the sharpness of your weapon. When your weapon is sharper, it deals more damage, and it's less likely to b ounce off the monster.

Element Attack Up, Sharpness +1, and Sharp Sword. Awesome Dual Sword set. It's perfect for Chameleos and Lao-Shan Lung. I'm sure it can be used for other things, but I don't main Dual Swords... Although I do recall obliterating Nargacuga with this set on one or more occasions. Be warned though, it's pretty funky-looking. Note: Sharp Sword causes your weapon to maintain its sharpness for twice as many hits. ----Log In Dark Ukanlos Mask (DivineProtectJwl x2) Dark Ukanlos Aegis (Howitzer Jewel x2) Dark Ukanlos Claw (Howitzer Jewel x2) DarkUkanlosCincture (Howitzer Jewel x2) Dark Ukanlos Hessian (Howitzer Jewel x2) Gunnery King (for Gunlance shots, among other things), Quake Resistance, ESP, and Sharpness +1. I normally just use this set for fighting Ukanlos, but it's also great for Shen Gaoren. With eight free slots (ten if you don't mind the Demonic Protection), you have dozens of options, including Guard Up. Keep in mind that I rarely use Gunlances on anything other than Ukanlos, so the lack of fire and thunder resistances may be detrimental to you. Note: Gunnery King increases damage of (correct me if I'm wrong) Gunlance shots, Ballistae, Cannonb alls, Crag & Cluster shots (b owguns), and the dragonator found in the town, the castle schrade, and the fortress. ESP keeps your weapon from b ouncing off monsters, regardless of the sharpness of your weapon. Quake Resistance helps against ground-shaking side effects caused b y certain attacks from Blangonga, Congalala, Rajang, Lavasioth, Akantor, Ukanlos, and Shen Gaoren. When inflicted with "quake," you flinch for a few seconds, and your weapon is sheathed for you. Demonic Protection activates randomly when a monster attacks you, and causes you to take more damage. I think 30% more, b ut don't quote me on that. ----Chaoshroom Dark Ukanlos Aegis (Artisan Jewel x2) Dark Ukanlos Claw (Artisan Jewel, Fencer Jewel) DarkUkanlosCincture (Protection Jewel) Dark Ukanlos Hessian Abnormal Sts Atk Up, ESP, and Sharpness +1, and this set is awesome for status effects (obviously). If you have a two-slotted weapon, you can add a five-slot skill. I usually use the Deathprize G, Hexed Shaka Sword, or the Hi Feather Sword with this set, and they all have at least two slots. The skill I usually go with is Sharpening Skl Inc, since I'm too lazy to come up with anything better. Note: Sharpness +1 also increases the effectiveness of the status attrib ute on your weapon.

WhiteFatalisSpineZ (UnsheathingJewel) White Fatalis Feet Z (UnsheathingJewel) Stellar Hunter (Sharpness +1, Attack Up (Large)), Art of Unsheathing, and Damage Rec Speed +1. Great for Great Swords. I suggest the King Atillart Sword - it has a LOT of raw, big chunk of purple (with Sharpness +1, of course), and with Art of Unsheathing, the -15% Affinity isn't an issue. The Destiny Jewels are to negate the Bad Luck, which would decrease your rewards (not money, parts). So, after those jewels, you have seven available slots. I just decided to turn it into some pretty rockin' GS armor. Note: Art of Unsheathing makes your unsheath attack a guaranteed critical (+25% damage). Damage Rec Speed affects the rate at which the red on your health b ar fills b ack up. In this case, it speeds it up, which is good. ----Two-slotted weapon (Artisan Jewel, Danger Jewel) Mizuha Shin set (Completely gemmed with Artisan Jewels) High Grade Earplug, Frosty Protection (Dragon Windbreaker, Snow Resistance), Sharpness +1, Stealth, and TerrainDamageInc[Lo]. This armor is just for fighting Kushala. And I know what you're thinking, "What's with all the Artisan love?" Purple sharpness gives your weapon a 1.5x attack boost, while white gives 1.2x. That's a pretty massive gap, and it's one that I intend to abuse forever. Anyway, you may need to farm Chameleos for a while to get this set, especially since you need BigEDragonJewels, and he has the highest drop rate. That's where my aforementioned Dual Sword set comes in, hehe. This set is good against tons of things, I'm sure, I just use it against Kushala though. Note: Dragon Windb reaker protects you from all wind, so Kushala's wind aura doesn't affect you. Snow Resistance keeps you from b eing encased in ice, like when Blangonga b reathes on you. Stealth makes it more likely the monster will attack another hunter rather than you. TerrainDamageInc[Lo] increases the damage you take from hot places like the desert. It also increases damage you take from standing too close to lava or Teostra's fire aura. ----Golden Hair Tie Shin (More Guts Jewel) Golden Haori Shin (More Guts Jewel) Golden Kote Shin (More Guts Jewel) Golden Obi Shin (DragonslyrJewel, Guts Jewel) Golden Hakama Shin (DragonslyrJewel x2) Dragon Res +10, Focus, Guts, Sharpness +1, and Taunt. Mostly for Teostra, but it also works very well against Yama Tsukami, what with that stupid suction attack. Teostra was practically one-shotting me all the time with his explosion attack, so I figured Guts would work well, and it did. You can also substitute the extra +5 Dragon resistance to get rid of Taunt, if it's bugging you. With a two-slotted weapon, you can even throw in a five-slot skill like Sharpening Skl Inc or something (in place of the Dragon Res). Just so you know, this armor is made of HR9 Rajang parts. Note: Focus speeds up the charge of Hammers, Bows, Great Swords, and even the Spirit Bar of Long Swords. Guts keeps you from b eing one-shotted if you have at least 60 HP. You only have 1HP after the fact, b ut it's b etter than dying. Taunt makes it more likely that the monster will attack you rather than any other hunters involved. ----One-slotted Para/Sleep/Poison weapon (Danger Jewel) Garuga X set (Completely gemmed with Artisan Jewels) Earplug, Abnormal Sts Atk Up, Sharpening Skl Inc, Sharpness +1, and Damage Rec Speed -1. It's basically the same as the Chaoshroom/Ukanlos set I mentioned earlier, but it has a little more defense because of the lack of the Chaoshroom headpiece. It mostly comes down to whether you want ESP and ice resistance or Earplug and fire resistance. Note: Earplug doesn't help against the roars of Gold Rathian, Silver Rathalos, Khezu, Tigrex, Monob los, Diab los, Basarios, Gravios, Lao-Shan Lung, Akantor, Ukanlos, or Fatalis. ----Ceanataur Helm X (Artisan Jewel x2) Ceanataur Mail X (Artisan Jewel x2) CeanataurVambracesZ (Master Jewel) Ceanataur Tasset X (Strength Jewel, Artisan Jewel) Ceanataur Greaves X (Unsheathing Jewel) ESP, Art of Unsheathing, Sharpness +1, and Health -10. This was my Great Sword armor set before I finished my White Fatalis set. Needless to say, this set is MUCH easier to obtain. ----3-slotted weapon (Beloved Jewel, Friendship Jewel) Khezu Helm Z (Friendship Jewel, Artisan Jewel) Khezu Mail Z (Artisan Jewel x2) Khezu Vambraces Z (Artisan Jewel x2) Khezu Tasset Z (Master Jewel) Khezu Greaves Z (Artisan Jewel, DivineProtectJwl) Wide Area +2, High Grade Earplug, and Sharpness +1. If you just made it to HR7, and you're looking for a quick HGE set, this is for you. I just hope you don't mind farming him. I had to use SnS to make the job tolerable. As you can see, there's no gemming involved as far as HGE goes, you just need to get rid of the negative Protection. Wide Area isn't that necessary, I was just bored when I decided to gem this set after it had collected dust for so many months. Note: Wide Area makes it so your Potions (not Mega or Max), Power/Armor Seeds, and various other items also affect other hunters in the same room as you, much like a Lifepowder. I never researched this, so I can't tell you every item that's affected b y this skill... Also, when did this b log b ecome a b eginner's guide to Monster Hunter? ----Two-slotted weapon (Antivenin Jewel) Ambitious Piercing Gypceros Mail X (HideCutter Jewel) Gypceros Vambraces X (Destiny Jewel) Gypceros Tasset X (Cure All Jewel+) Gypceros Greaves X (HideCutter Jewel x2) Carving Celebrity, Luck Booster, and Poison Dur Halved. The Ambitious Piercing is pretty tough to get, as it requires you to finish all of the G-Lv Training. That's 40 training quests: eight monsters, five weapons each. Yeah, it's a hassle, and quite frankly, not worth it. It gives you Fate +15, which increases your rewards, as in parts. It's like having Mega Lucky Cat all the time. Personally, I'd prefer a piercing that offers Artisan +10, hehe. Note: Carving

having Mega Lucky Cat all the time. Personally, I'd prefer a piercing that offers Artisan +10, hehe. Note: Carving Celeb rity gets you an extra carve on everything. The monster's b ody, the tail, even Vespoids. Also, it keeps you from b eing interrupted b y small attacks while carving. Poison Dur Halved is self-explanatory, b ut in case it's not, it cuts the duration you remain poisoned in half. ----One-slotted weapon (Razor Jewel) Diablo Helm Z (Silencer Jewel) Ceanataur Mail Z (Artisan Jewel x2) RathSoulVambracesZ (Master Jewel) Diablo Coil Z (Celebrity Jewel) Ceanataur Greaves Z (Celebrity Jewel) Earplug, Reckless Abandon +1, Sharpness +1, and Sharp Sword. Before I got the Rajang set, this was my Teostra-fighting armor set. This is another ugly armor set, but it's effective enough. ----Monoblos Cap S (Bombardier Jewel x2) Monoblos Vest S (Pinch Jewel) Monoblos Guards S (Bombardier Jewel x2) Chrome Metal Coat Monoblos Leggings S (Bombardier Jewel) Adrenaline +2, Attack Up (Medium), and Bomber. Mostly for fighting Lao, but it can also be used for Fatalis. Note: Adrenaline +2 greatly increases your attack and defense when you have less than 60 HP. Bomb er increases the damage of your b omb s (I think b y 50%), and makes you ab le to create b omb s without needing any b ooks to achieve 100% comb ine success rate. ----Two-slotted weapon (Destiny Jewel) White Fatalis Face Z (ShortChargeJewel x2) White Fatalis Skin Z (ShortChargeJewel x2) White Fatalis Fist Z (RapidChargeJewel) WhiteFatalisScaleZ (ShortChargeJewel x2) White Fatalis Legs Z (Destiny Jewel) Focus, Straight & True, and Damage Rec Speed +1. Again, mostly for fighting Lao, but the only two-slotted dragonelement bow I could find was the Black Bow G. Main reason I don't use this set for Fatalis (other than the horrible dragon resistance) is that it doesn't have Rapid Bow. If I'm going to focus on Fata's face, I'm going to want Rapid, not Pierce. Note: Straight & True increases the damage of Normal/Rapid, Pierce, and Pellet/Scatter shots. I'm not sure b y how much though. ----Akantor Chaos Bow (Early Bird Jewel) Fatalis Z set (Completely gemmed with StrongShot Jewels) Emboldened (Guts, Adrenaline +2), Capacity Up, NormalS/RapidBow Up, Damage Rec Speed -1. You'd think it's pointless, but it's for farming Fatalis. Mostly to help my friends, since I made the gunner and blademaster sets of every high-rank fatalis. I don't prefer to use this set for that, but if I'm feeling whimsical, then why not? Works well against Yama Tsukami though. Note: NormalS/RapidBow Up increases the damage of Normal Shot (for b owguns) and Rapid Bow shots (uh... for Bows? :P). ----Absolute Bow (Works with any bowgun, but this one rocks) Kut-Ku Cap Z (Element Jewel+) Kut-Ku Vest Z (High Speed Jewel) Kut-Ku Guards Z (High Speed Jewel) Kut-Ku Coat Z (Element Jewel x2) Kut-Ku Leggings Z (Element Jewel+) Reloading Speed +2, Element Attack Up, Reckless Abandon +1, and Health -10. This set's pretty nice. This gun, for instance, rapidfires Pierce Shot Lv1, Flaming Shot, Water Shot, Thunder Shot, AND Freeze Shot. So, I built an armor set around it. Should you desire this weapon, be warned: It requires four Thick White Fatalis Scales, two Strong White Fatalis Wings, two Ukanlos Stones, and FIVE BIG ELDER DRAGON JEWELS. Freakin' ridiculous. ----Akantor Chaos Bow (StrongShot Jewel) Barrage Piercing PupptMastrCostShin (Guts Jewel, StrongShot Jewel) PupptMastrGlovesShin (More Guts Jewel) PuppetMasterObiShin (More Guts Jewel) PuppetMastrSocksShin (More Guts Jewel) Guts, Capacity Up, Dragon Res +5, NormalS/RapidBow Up, and Stealth. For Fatalis again, the difference being that this is one of my two main Fatalis-fighting armors. The only time I don't use this is when I've weakened White Fatalis to the point where his armor is up for the duration of the battle. Note: Capacity Up adds another charge level to your b ow and adds one more shot to each of the availab le ammo types for your equipped b owgun. ----One-slotted weapon Basarios Helm X (Bombardier Jewel x2) Basarios Vest X (Attack Jewel) Basarios Guards X (Howitzer Jewel x2) Basarios Coat X (Bombardier Jewel x2) Basarios Leggings X (Turtle Jewel) Defense +30, Gunnery King, Divine Protection, and Bomber. This set is for fighting White Fatalis when he's been weakened enough to cause him to keep his armor up for the rest of the battle. Bombs, Crag shots, and Cluster shots all do a set amount of damage, regardless of the monster's defenses, so it's perfect for White Fatalis in the aforementioned state. Make sure you notice that I put "Helm" and not "Cap." The helm offers +3 to Gunnery, while the cap doesn't offer any. Also, since it's a blademaster piece of armor, it gives you double the defense of the cap (and that's BEFORE you upgrade it, heh). Note: Divine Protection activates randomly when a monster attacks you, and causes you to take less damage. I think 30% less, b ut again, I'm not sure. I've never studied Protection that

and causes you to take less damage. I think 30% less, b ut again, I'm not sure. I've never studied Protection that thoroughly. ----Kut-Ku Pick G (Grab'n'DashJewel x3) Chain Helm U (Gathering Jewel, Backpacker Jewel x2) Chain Mail U (Gathering Jewel x2) Melahoa Branch U (Blessing Jewel x2) Melahoa Skirt U (Blessing Jewel x2) Coffee Pants (Gathering Jewel x2) Divine Whim, Gathering +2, and Backpacking Expert. I used this to get all gold crowns in the treasure-hunting quests. I suggested this hammer because it has three slots, and hammers can easily break the rocks in the treasure-hunting quests. Note: Divine Whim makes it less likely for your pickaxes and b ugnets to b reak. Gathering +2 allows you to gather more times at any given gathering spot, such as a mushroom patch. Backpacking Expert allows you to run faster while carrying an egg or powderstone, or in the case of treasurehunting quests, valuab le monster stones. ----That was actually way more long-winded than I thought it was going to be. I also have a Crimson Fatalis set, but all I did was add more Evade and threw in Sharpening Skl Inc. Not very creative... But I guess my Chameleos and Garuga sets weren't very creative either. I'd also like to take this time to advertise the Magnitude. I've seen videos of people using hammers, and NOT ONCE have I seen anybody use this one. This hammer (with Sharpness +1) tops the charts of damage output on every monster except eight OUT OF FIFTY-ONE. And on each of those monsters, it's not far from the top. If I had to choose one hammer to use for the duration of MHFU, it would have to be this one. Oh, and that first set I listed really makes it shine even moreso. This hammer and Sharpness +1 don't get nearly enough attention, and if I can change the mind of just one person at this site, I'll be happy. If you have any questions, concerns, or interesting armor sets you'd like to share, feel free to comment.
