CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

A. Background of Problem

Language is a very important part in human life because language is a tool of communication. English is a tool to communicate both orally and writing in English, because the language is a necessity in this era of globalization. Department of Education, which prepares competency standards in determining the ability to be owned by Indonesian students to understand and express information, thoughts, feelings, and develop science, technology and culture by using the English language.

Vocabulary also supports the four skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Therefore, vocabulary has an important role to learn a language and it is the most important language component that is vocabulary, moreover, vocabulary is one of the first things that should be taught in learning a language. Vocabulary is the knowledge of words, not only the meaning of the words but also the words form (spelling and pronunciation) and the way to use it in a sentence or daily conversation. A. The Concept of Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign Language Language is very important in human life that is used as communication. Through language, someone is able to communicate all of their ideas thought and feeling that have been arranged to transfer of getting a massage to listener or reader need. Language is human communication of knowledge idea, using a system of sound symbol.1 Based on the statement, the writer assume that language has its own system or role for communication and interaction among people in certain community which may include understanding and transferring message, idea or emotional in human being life.

Based on the theoretical of language above we can see that English is different from Indonesia language. Each of them has certain words. Symbols or certain structure and culture background. CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A. Research Design Knowledge without any investigation, it will not look up. Knowledge is the basis of all actions and efforts. Studies that are often done this manifold depend on the purpose of research, science, and as his presence variable.

The writer will use true experimental design to conduct the research and to find out whether there is any influence by using monopoly game and how could it influence the students vocabulary mastery. The writer will employ two classes of students, one class as the experimental class and the other one as the control class. In this research, the students in experimental class will be given the treatment (X) by using Monopoly media and the students in control class (O) by using picture media. The design is illustrated as follows:
