Text Response I don't have kids, but do not agree with this. Schools do very little with the money they have. We spend so much on education with no results. I don't believe more money is the answer. The children need to have transportation restored so all students can get to school safely. The lack of transportation puts all of the magnet programs in jeopardy. While I understand economic issues, you cannot make a decision just weeks before a new school year just to make a point to the county government. Transportation should be returned to pre-decision routes. Make the change prior to the end of the school year, not the beginning. I agree with it. Taxes must go up if people want better services. The policy must consider the safety for students, who face hazardous road conditions. I don't have children, but believe that it does cause a greater risk to kids in our community. 8. Please share any other comments you may have about the Athletics and Activity Participation Fee (Pay to Play/Participate).
Text Response Support the students! Unfair for health/exercises I definitely think that this new proposal rule will be an injustice to the kids and the schools' athletic programs. I can pay but it does make me think twice about letting my children participate in ALL of the sports that they want. This policy will exclude students from families that cannot afford to pay and that is unfair and discriminatory. There is no money anywhere it seems. It is not fair for low income families. Not all parents can afford it, but okay for those who can. I was going to play 3 sports this year, but decided to just to do 2 because I am also involved in clubs at my school. Due to the economy a lot of parents cannot afford the fee. Communities should contact County Council members to re-think this policy and not burden families with additional costs during these economic times. I don't think it is being fairly administered with all of the exceptions. I think the fee should be lower, but that EVERYONE should pay it. For instance, $25, but teachers' kids, military and even FARMS kids should pay. Kids have to pay for rec sports with volunteer coaches, so why not? I don't agree. Use other forms of fundraising.
