Dear Tier 0 Families,

Welcome to my classroom! Im so
very excited to be working with your student. If you need anything or have any questions please feel free to contact me. You may also visit my class website for information related to Tier 0; under the Tier 0 Tab. We ask that you follow us on Twitter so that you might have a glimpse into our classroom. Tier 0 moves extremely fast and it only works if you are a learning partner. Studies have shown that reading success depends on two key factors sight word knowledge and reading practice. Reading practice could be, reading or listening to reading. Working at home is KEY! Sight words must be practiced nightly, and reading must take place daily. I look forward to working with your bright learner and celebrating their progress with you.

Sight Word Club Your student has been given two sight word lists. One is a comprehensive list of all words to be learned in Kindergarten (Tier 0) found on the back of this sheet for your to keep; the second list is the first set. Each set is broken down into groups of 50. Each time your student masters a list, return it signed and we will celebrate by adding them to the next level sight word club, 50 Word Club, 100 Word Club and so on.

BLIND PICK Place several sight words on a large poster board and hang it on the wall at your child's eye level. Like "Pin the Tail on the Donkey," tie a scarf around the child's eyes and spin them in place three times. Have them place their finger on a sight word on the poster. Remove the scarf and have the child read the word.

How to Raise a Reader

Look for new books and authors that your child may enjoy. Organize an area dedicated to reading and writing tools. Visit the library for story time and book recommendations. Encourage your child to talk about what he's read. Talk to your child, and sprinkle interesting words into your conversation. Offer a variety of books to read. Read with your child every day. Expand your home library to include magazines and nonfiction. Ask questions if you're concerned about your child's development. Decide to raise a reader!

Thanks,
Mrs. Stone
