Book review Eng 6

Written book review focus on three keywords!

This is what your book review will look like: Introduction: present the title of the book and the author. Retell the plot in a few lines, but keep this part very short, no more than three to five sentences! Body: sum up the book in three keywords. Use your opinion (childish, entertaining, old-fashioned, complicated, thrilling) or themes (friendship, love, growing up, revenge) Try to be as specific and varied as possible!

Explain why you chose the three words and make sure you are convincing and eloquent! Give clear examples (quotes, passages or specific events) from the book that support your opinions. Discuss the characters, the setting, the plot, the narrative, the turning point, language etc and use this to back your opinions: I thought the book was boring because the characters, Friendship plays a great role in the book because or I found the book complicated because.. Repeat the process for all your three words and this is why it is good to choose varied words to describe your reading experience. This should be the main part of your report. Make sure you give equal attention to all three statements. Remember: there isnt really any right or wrong when it comes to your opinions or themes as long as you motivate clearly why you think the way you do! Conclusion: sum up and finish your review with a judgement of the book. Did you like it or not, would you recommend it to someone and would you like to read more books by this writer? Can you relate the book to another story/novel/film? In what way?

You will write the book review in school during a lesson so you must be prepared (i.e. you have finished your book, read these instructions and thought about which words to write about). Also, bring the book for the report, you will need it! You are allowed to use dictionaries and grammar books but not google translate. Length: ~ 2 computer written pages Date of examination: Monday, October 14, 11.30-13.30
