Year 2 Spelling Activities Term 2

Choose at least one activity to complete for homework each week. Once you have completed the activity, colour it in on the grid and record the date. Each activity must only be completed once.

You must also remember your LSCWCs and to learn the spelling of your words for your test.
HIDDEN WORDS Draw and color a picture. Hide your spelling words inside your picture. Show your picture to someone and see if they can find your hidden words! DICTIONARY MEANINGS Find the meanings for at least 5 of your list words in a dictionary and record them in your book. POEM Write a poem using your spelling words. Underline the words that you use. Illustrate your poem. CREATE AN ACTIVITY Can you think of a really fun way to practice your spelling words? Then go for it! Be sure to write a sentence explaining your activity. ACROSTIC POEM Choose five of your spelling words. Write an acrostic poem for that word. You may also like to ILLUSTRATE your poem. RIDDLES Write a riddle for at least 5 of your spelling words. Dont forget to add the answers to your riddles. *Example- I cry when I am hungry. I wear nappies. I am cute and cuddly. What am I? *Answer- Baby BACKWARDS Write all your list words backwards. Write them the correct way next to each backward word. SYLLABLES Put all your list words into syllables and record how many syllables in each word. Example: foot-ball 2 syllables

SENTENCES Write a sentence for at least 5 of your spelling word. Remember to underline your spelling words and write neatly. There must be at least 8 words in each sentence. STORY, STORY Write a story using ALL of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your spelling words and remember to use full stops and capital letters. SUPERMAN LETTER Your job is to write a creative letter to Superman (or another super hero). In your letter, you must use each of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your words as you use them. PICTURES Draw pictures for all of your list words. Remember to colour in your pictures. SECRET CODE Number the alphabet from 1-26. Example: a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, etc. Then convert your words to a number code. You must write the actual spelling word next to the code word. FIND-A-WORD Hide your words in a find-a-word grid. Then see if a friend of family member can find all your words. Remember to write the list of words that they are looking for underneath the grid. PLAY DOUGH WORDS Make all of your list words out of play dough. If possible take a photo of your words to stick in your book. SONG or RAP Create a song or rap that included your list words in it. Write the words in your book. RHYMING WORDS Record rhyming words for as many

ALPHABETICAL ORDER Put your list words in alphabetical order. HIDDEN WORDS Write each spelling word and then write at least two words made from the same letters that is hidden inside the word. Example: slide side lie lid led etc. MAGAZINE/NEWSPAPER WORDS Use an old magazine and find your words (or the letters that make up your word). Cut them out and glue in your book.

TELEPHONE WORDS First write your words in a list. Then look at your telephone keypad. Translate each letter into the numbers on the keypad. Now write your spelling words using this code! JUMBLED WORDS Jumble up the letters of each list word. See if a friend of family member can unjumble them. LETTER WRITING Write a friendly letter to a friend or family member using each of your words. Underline the spelling words that you use in your letter.
