Feature Overview

Feature Overview

Statistics
Packet Congestion Packet congestion may be measured by use of a key statistic, GPRS Cell Congestion. BLER The Block Error Rate (BLER) indicates the quality of the radio link and has direct impact on the user throughput. BLER is affected by three factors: Each individual carrier has its own quality of transmission Each coding scheme uses different algorithm to prevent errors from happening. A higher coding scheme tends to have a higher BLER In GPRS system, different mechanisms are used for downlink and uplink transmission, and therefore the quality is different for the same carrier in different directions

Packet Loss Packet loss is defined as the number of lost Protocol Data Unit (PDU) at LLC level. Causes can be link quality, buffer availability, and cell reselection etc

Statistics
LLC Traffic Report LLC data frames are exchanged between PCU and SGSN over the Gb links. Tracks the number of frames sent/received by PCU and indicate the data traffic at LLC level. Uplink LLC frames received are those frames correctly assembled from RLC data blocks sent by the mobile. Downlink LLC frames received in a given cell are obtained in two ways: 1) frames coming from SGSN over a Gb link; 2) frames coming from another cell due to cell reselection targeted to this cell. Paging load The number of PS and CS pages that are received over the Gb links User Throughput User throughput is the data rate at which the end user receives useful information RLC Traffic Report These statistics help to measure RLC data blocks transmission efficiency and identify the causes of retransmission.

NACC - Network Assisted Cell Change

FR 222708 & FR23706

Feature Overview

In the current system, there are performance degradations seen when the MS performs autonomous cell reselections

MS has limited information available to determine which cell to reselect to.

Performance degradation if the target cell is congested.

MS has to read System Info messages on the target cell before accessing the target cell.

Feature Overview

Reading of System Information in the target cell after terminating TBF in the source cell

2 - 5 secs

Update Procedures ( MS need not perform a1l the procedures) Intra-RA cell change (Cell Update) 0.5 - 1 secs

Network Assisted Cell Change CCN Mode

Before a MS can use the NACC feature it must be aware that it is supported in the cell. This is achieved by broadcasting CCN_ACTIVE in system information messages.
MS must be R4 compliant

Packet (P)SI Status Procedure

Essentially when a MS moves to a new cell, it must receive a set of message before it can begin transfer of data. To prevent the MS waiting for these message, the MS may request information that it has failed to acquire. The network will then respond with the required system information.

GPRS Type 5 Algorithm options

GPRS Type 5 Algorithm

location

1 = enabled

Algorithm moves the stationary users in the network that can see a MICRO cell to the micro cells so as to free up more bandwidth on the MACRO layer. Cell reselection will only be triggered if the target neighbour micro cell has continuously qualified for a predefined period. The algorithm for cell reselection from the macro to micros or small macros, is speed sensitive to avoid repeated cell reselections for fast moving mobiles.

GPRS Type 5 Algorithm

How the system will apply this algorithm will depend upon the settings of the following features: PBCCH must be unrestricted NCCR must be unrestricted NACC must be unrestricted GSM micro cellular algorithm feature (must be enabled for it to be applied in any situation) Under this feature congestion may be controlled for both Mobile stations in both the standby and ready state.
