For the most part interactions are neutral and positive. However, there are some areas throughout the U.S where racism still occurs. For example, in the south there are many individuals that discriminate against minorities due to the past (slavery, segregation, etc) and reverse racism still occurs in such areas for the same reasons.

Are there existing social inequities based on race? Why or why not?

Social inequities based on race do exist. I myself have witnessed it myself as I stated in a response to a discussion question this week. I believe social inequities exist for the same reasons I listed above. While such reasons definitely do not justify discriminating actions, I do believe these reasons are a factor in such racist actions. What do you believe to be the causes of racial prejudice and discrimination in todays society?

As I stated above I think current racism has to do with history because history is where racism originated. Individuals refer to history to justify racist actions, yet the point of referring to historical events such as slavery and segregation is to keep it from repeating itself and racist individuals keep racism alive. I also think it has a lot to do with families passing down such thoughts from one generation to another therefore spreading racism.
