Burying blue flowers The item of upaya in both the cases is the same i.e.

blue flowers or blue glass balls. The time of upaya suggested is also the same. But it does not mean that the upaya are also the same. These are two entirely different upaya with entirely different purposes. In the first case of Venus + Rahu , the blue flower is advised to be buried aurat ke hathon ya khud neela phool bawaqt sham mitti mein dabate jaane se madad hoti rahegi [ 1952 ed; page 870 ; line 6] This means that either the jatak himself or his wife can do this upaya. In both the cases it is the Rahu whose effect for the year is being supressed by burying the karak object of rahu [ blue ] through the hands of mercury [ mitra budh ke hathon saunp kar rahu ke prabhav ko dabaya gaya hai]. This upaya has been explained earlier and if you look the archives you will find further details of this upaya and the logic behind it. In the second case of Sun + Saturn in the 6th house, of course the item of the upaya is the same, and the process also is the same; namely rahu ko uske mitra budh ke hathon saunpa gaya hai. Since we already know that Sun + Saturn form a masnuyee rahu. But in this case the blue flower is advised to be buried at a chaurasta [cross-roads]; a specific place has been designated. Chaurasta is considered the 2nd house / temple /dharma sthan according to the Lal Kitab. Now you notice the difference. In the first case the flower was just to be buried [most probably in a barren place: our interpretation], thus neutralizing its impact for that year. But in the second case a specific place has been mentioned to bury the flower. abadi se bahar jahan koi waham na kare chauraste mein bawaqt pakki sham budh ki ashiya maslan phool ya neele rang ke kanch ke moti dabana madadgar hoga [ 1952 ed; page 819 line # 3 ] Now why this changed form of the upaya? Why it has been advised to bury in chaurasta? The book has added one more dimension to the upaya budh ki ashiya. There is no mention of budh ki ashiya in the first case of Venus + rahu. To our mind it is because for the Sun + Saturn in the 6th the book says: halat mandi budh hardam manda, bhala Chandra na rahata ho chalte seedhe shani rasta bhoola, asar shakki sab deta ho [ 1952 / page 818 ] And that is the reason. The upaya takes care of both: a possible budh and the masnuyee rahu by establishing them in the 2nd house / temple/dharma sthan.

Through this upaya the masnuyee rahu and a possible malefic mercury both have been sent to ishwar ki sharan assuming that now they will not create mischief. Therefore the effect has not been suppressed [destroyed] like in the first case; instead an effort is made to change the nature of the planets. Now the question arises why not suppress or destroy the effect altogether as was in the previous case? Since the upaya is done for planets placed in the 6th house where both the mercury and Rahu are considered beneficial. If the effect is suppressed or destroyed then even the beneficial effect of mercury and rahu will get destroyed. Therefore the upaya is just to make sure that both these planets do not create any mischief. Varun Trivedi
