European Bitumen Consumption 2012 (metric tonnes, 000s)

To compile this data, Eurobitume tried to contact all the bitumen producers in Europe. Most of them, 14, responded in 2012, 15 in 2011, 14 in 2010, 14 in 2009 and 13 in 2008. As the figures for some countries are therefore incomplete, Eurobitume has assessed their reliability in relation to the estimated total consumption for each country and colour coded them accordingly (see box, right). Consumptions are reported by country if at least 4 suppliers have communicated their data. Where fewer than 4 suppliers have responded, country figures are grouped together. Minor inconsistencies in totals are due to rounding. Industrial grades: these include grades such as roofing grade bitumen EN 13304 and other bitumen used in roofing and industrial applications. Harder PG: EN 13924 plus EN 12591 with pen below 50; below 40 for the UK, Netherlands and Ireland, and below 45 for Germany. Softer PG: EN 12591 with pen above 50; above 40 for the UK, the Netherlands and Ireland, and above 45 for Germany.
