Pumpkin Patch volunteers needed

The Maysville Library will again be hosting a Pumpkin Patch this year and they are in need of volunteers. The event is tentatively scheduled for October 17-31, with the Pumpkin Fest event on October 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. "It will be a small community event with a few local vendors, mostly non-profits, selling hot chocolate and baked goods," Maysville Librarian Janet Dinwiddie told the News Star. Hayrides will also be offered to attendees. Volunteers are needed to help unload the pumpkin truck when it arrives. Contract awarded for road improvements in Garvin County


A contract was awarded for road improvements in Garvin County, Sen. Susan Paddack and Rep. Lisa Billy recently announced. According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the project will involve a highway bridge replacement on SH-74 over a creek six miles north of the Carter County line. Paddack, (D-Ada) said the State Transportation Commission awarded a contract for approximately $750,000 on the project to Manhattan Road & Bridge Company. The Tulsa company was the lowest of three bidders for the job, said Billy, (R-Purcell). Once construction begins, the project is estimated to be completed within two months.

Festival 5k Run set for Sept. 28 at Tishomingo Wildlife Refuge The Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival 5K Run and Fun Walk is set at 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge. The competition is another way the tribe promotes fitness, wellness and good health. Best of all, it's free. Additionally, it gets you up off the sofa and gets you moving toward becoming healthy and staying that way. And, if you win the competition, that's just icing on the proverbial cake because you gave up icing in order to win the race anyway. I am proud to announce the names of the Maysville Junior Class King and Queen, attendants, and officers for the 2013-2014 school year. Our class King and Queen are Colton Johnson and Hailee Deaton. Their attendants are Tanner Stephenson and Brooklyn House. Our Yearbook Queen Candidate is Nattilee Cornelius. Class Officers are president - Josie Donham, vicepresident - Dalton Elmore, secretary - Brooklyn House, treasurer - Laura Webb, and reporter - Priscilla O'Dell. Our Student Council representatives are Paige Cooper and Nattilee Cornelius. Homecoming will be October 25th, and our float theme is Kenny Rogers, "The Gambler."
