Tailing the startstop.log will look something like this... 05/19/04 13:23:22 Starting Tivoli Storage Manager Server ANR7804I Unable to open adsmserv.lock - Cannot open or remove a file containing. To go to the server directory enter "server" after su - tsm OR "cd /usr/tivoli/t sm/server/bin" List the files in the server directory by entering "ls" (LS lowe r case). If you see adsmserv.lock listed, you have a database deadlock. Remove the database deadlock by entering "rm adsmserv.lock" Go back to the home directory by entering "home" OR "cd /home/tsm/tsm" You can proceed with bringing TSM up using the menu. If problems still exist, tail the startstop.log (menu option E) to see if you get a different result.

If you can't restart the TSM server because of this problem, delete the adsmserv .lock file from the above directory. This SHOULD take care of restarting the TSM server.
