HILCO TRANSFER VALVE INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION I Piping: IMPORTANT! Make sure connecting piping and flanges are straight and properly aligned with valve connection before bolting or welding. Do not use valve to support piping runs. Overstressing of valve nozzles may damage valve II Crossover A crossover line must be installed in system to equalize pressure across valve when turing sealing mechanism. Failure to equalize pressure may prevent sealing mechanism from turing, and cause scoring or jamming of sealing pads. When equalized the valve stem will turn easily. Never force the stem since it should always turn freely when equalized. OPERATION: I Turning Sealing Mechanism: A. Open system crossover line to equalize pressure across valve. B. Pull up handle lock ring to disengage pin from recess in cover. C. Turn handle to new position and locking pin to snap into cover recess. D. Close crossover line. II Reversing Handle:
NOTE: It is recommended that the cover seal be replaced whenever the shaft stem seal is replaced. (See Step B)

1. Remove valve handle and top cover bolts. Use two cover bolts in cover jacking screw holes to remove cover. 2. Remove seal from groove in shaft stem and make sure groove is clean and burr free. 3. Lubricate new seal with Parker Super OLube and install in stem groove. 4. Check to make sure cover seal is in position. Make sure seal is clean and lubricated. 5. Install the cover over the valve shaft stem and carefully push it over the shaft stem seal until the cover seats in the valve body. 6. Replace the cover bolts and tighten snugly. NOTE: The cover has offset boltholes and will fit one way only.

7. Replace valve handle B. Top and Bottom Cover Seals: 1. Remove cover bolts and cover by using cover bolts in jacking screw holes in cover. NOTE: When removing top cover, the handle must be removed first. 2. Remove old seal from groove in cover and make sure groove is clean and burr free. 3. Lubricate new seal with Parker Super OLube and install in cover groove. 4. Replace cover and cover bolts. NOTE: When replacing top cover, push cover over valve shaft seal carefully. When replacing the top cover seal it is recommended that the valve shaft seal be replaced at the same time. (See Step A above). Each cover has offset holes and will fit one way only

The handle may be repositioned for accessibility from either side of the valve. To reverse handle, drive out the
pin that fastens handle to stem. Re-position the handle 180 and reinstall pin. SERVICING I Seal Replacement A. Stem Seal

5. Re-install handle C. Sealing Mechanism: 1. Remove handle, top cover bolts, and cover following Step A or B above. 2. Carefully remove sealing mechanism from body. Rotate mechanism slightly in one direction while lifting. When sealing pads show at top of valve body during removal, hold pads against spring pressure and continue to remove mechanism until pads and springs can be removed. Protect pad surface while out of valve body. Follow the same procedure for lower set of pads. 3. Carefully remove seal from center groove on sealing mechanism. 4. Check sealing mechanism and groove for cleanliness and burrs. Clean as needed and carefully stone any burrs. HANDLE SEALING MECHANISM WITH CARE. 5. Check inside of body for cleanliness and burrs. Clean as needed and carefully stone any burrs. 6. Apply a light coat of new oil, 100 to 200 SUS, to the body bore using a lint-free cloth or brush. 7. Apply a light coat of new oil, 100 to 200 SUS, to the valve shaft and sealing pads using a lint-free cloth or brush. 8. Lubricate the new seal with Parker Super O-Lube and install it in the valve shaft groove. into valve body while turning slowly in one direction. Insert mechanism assembly slowly to prevent cutting the shaft seal on the port openings of the valve body. Once mechanism is in valve body, align prick punch mark on stem with center valve inlet port. 10. Replace top cover and cover bolts. NOTE: When replacing the sealing mechanism seal, it is recommended that bolt the stem seal and cover seal be replaced at the same time (See Steps A and B). The cover has offset holes and will fit only one way. 11. Replace valve handle and check to make sure the valve turns smoothly without binding. Note: If sealing mechanism binds, remove it and check sealing pads and body for dirt, burrs, or a damaged sealing mechanism seal. II. BY-PASS LEAKAGE: There should be no by-pass leakage from the inlet to the outlet port of the valve. If leakage exists, a damaged seal is indicated. A limited amount of by-pass leakage may be experienced from the shut-off side of the valve. This will be very minimal and is normal.

9. Carefully insert lower and of valve shaft

valve body. Insert sealing pad springs into spring pockets. Place sealing pads over springs and press into sealing pad guides. Carefully push valve shaft and sealing pads into valve body while holding shoes in against spring pressure. If necessary, turn valve shaft slowly in one direction. When valve shaft seal enters valve body, install upper sealing pad springs and sealing pads and continue to push valve shaft assembly
