Abstract: Due to the good ability of localization of time-frequency, which is suitable for frequency analysis in unstable time series, the
wavelet analysis is widely used in scientific research in many fields. After the explanation of essential differences between wavelet
analysis and Fourier transform, the paper summarizes the status-quo of Wavelet analysis applications in period analysis, filtering, trend
analysis, singularity detection, and forecasting in hydrology. Problems and deficiencies of wavelet application in hydrology are figured
out in the end.

Key words: Wavelet Analysis; Fourier Transforms; Hydrology; Time Series
