Medical Insurance Policy

Every student must have medical insurance upon their first day of study. If you need a doctor in Winnipeg, visiting a doctor can be very expensive if you dont have medical insurance. Heartland International English School, Homestay staff and the host family are not responsible for medical costs if a student gets sick or has an accident. Therefore, we expect that all students have medical insurance. If you have a student visa valid for 6 months or longer, you are eligible for free Manitoba Health coverage. If you have a visitor visa, you must purchase insurance.

Heartland sells insurance coverage for $2/day. If insurance is not purchased from Heartland, you must show proof of medical coverage. If you feel sick and would like to see a doctor, please speak to your homestay family or Heartland staff member. We can go with you to the pharmacy or a medical walkin clinic, if need be.

English Only Policy

Students are here to learn and practice English. Therefore, we have a strict English Only Policy. This means that you cannot speak any other language than English at school. If a student is caught speaking a language other than English, that student will be asked to leave the school immediately. The student will not be able to return for the remainder of the day. The main goal of our English Only policy is to help students improve their English skills by surrounding them in an English environment. We also want all students, from all countries, to feel comfortable with each other. We have an English Only policy so that everyone is speaking a language that all students can understand.
