Mann performs with OK Youth Philharmonic

Carly Mann of the Rush Springs High School Band is playing in The Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic. Auditions were in May of 2012. Being a part of the Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic is a great opportunity and it is hard to achieve because it is a state wide audition. Carly says, "It takes a little bit of work, but it is worth it. You have to know the music and be good at playing the music otherwise you stick out." Practices are every Monday from 6:00-7:30 P.M. at Oklahoma City University with a total of four concerts this year, November 3, December 1, March 2 and their final concert of the year will be May 4. Being a part of the Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic is different from a regular high school band. There are more stringed instruments and a small selection of wind and percussion instruments. Carly urges anyone who is in band or that can simply play an instrument to consider auditioning for the 2014-2015 year.

Every year a class is voted to pick up trash after home football games. For the last six years the class of 2014 has been that class. Jeanean Moreno has been in charge of the pick-ups along with spearheading the concession stand at all home sports events. Picking up after the football games along with working the concession stand adds money to the students' funds for their senior trip. If the student decides against attending senior trip, then upon graduation they receive their earned percent. Senior parents help pick-up after the games to help the students finish sooner. This takes, depending on how many students show up, usually fifteen to twenty minutes. Some junior and sophomore students assist with the aftergame event.
