See It! Invest In Yourself

To take this topic, Step Into Balance, to the next level, we are giving you three Action Steps to focus
on. These Action Steps will inspire you to explore your ability to make authentic choices. You will see
where you are getting in your own way. Once we see something, then we can own it, and take action
to create what we want!

Action Step #1: Choose It Or Lose It

One of the key concepts in this MAP™ is that you, and only you, are responsible for choosing what you
do with your life. Granted, everyone has constraints on their choices – for example, if you have
children, you have to take care of them. But how you care for them and what that looks like in action
are up to you. You can choose to, say, do all the housework yourself or teach them to help.

The idea is to make the choices about how you live your life so that your actions align with your values
and priorities. Otherwise, you lose all of your time and energy – not to mention the things that are
most important to you – to overwork, burnout and frustration.

List any areas of your life where you consistently make choices that DO NOT support your own values
and priorities:

Why do you think you make these choices in these areas?

What have these choices cost you?

List any areas of your life where you consistently make choices that DO support your own values and
priorities:

Why do you think you choose to act differently in these areas?

How have these choices benefited you?

What would be possible if you only made choices that supported your own values and priorities in the
first list of areas?

What would have to change for that to happen?

Action Step #2: Invest vs. Spend and Waste

In everyday conversation, people tend to talk about “spending” or “wasting” their time and energy.
However, in the daily audios, Kim talks about investing your time and energy where they are most
important to you.

What does this distinction mean to you?

What has to change for you to be in a position to operate from a place of investing your time and
energy, rather than spending or wasting them?

What would you gain by making these changes?

What might you have to give up?

Action Step #3: The Bigger Picture

Choosing to proactively invest your time and energy on what matters most to you will have profound
effects on your life – and the lives of others. Once you make these changes, you begin to clearly and
powerfully broadcast your values and priorities, and your commitment to making choices to support
them.

How might the following groups of people react to your choices?

Your family

Your colleagues, peers, superiors, and other business acquaintances

Your Friends

Your spiritual community

Your broader community (neighbors, groups you belong to, etc)

How might these groups of people benefit from your choices?

Live It! Investment Fund

This tool is intended to be used in conjunction with a Compass coach and Compass Coaching
program. If details come to mind as you’re moving through the questions, feel free to jot them down.
Bring your results to your In Person group meeting for further insight and action.

Investment Fund Pre-Session Activity

A solid investment fund is managed carefully to provide a diversity of investment vehicles that
provide the maximum return while limiting losses. This is done by balancing investments against
each other, so that when some fall others will rise to cover the losses.

When you are making choices to invest your time and energy in alignment with your values and
priorities, it makes sense not to view these as individual choices, but to step back a bit and consider
your life as an investment fund.

For example, you may place a high priority on your career and make time and energy choices
accordingly. But what if something happens that makes pursuing your career no longer possible or
desirable? What else are you investing in that will balance that loss so that you are still living a fulfilled
and happy life?

Check in with yourself. How are you feeling? Answer the following questions:

How has your understanding of balance changed during the course of this program?

How are you currently feeling about the level of balance in your life?

What are your biggest challenges around living in balance?

Action Step #1: The Playground Of Life

Balance is dynamic. What it means to be balanced can shift from one point in time to the next.
Examining how you deal with the shifting nature of balance can offer useful insight into how to
maximize your approach for best results.

Imagine your life as a playground. Which of the following descriptions fits your approach to balance
best?

Seesaw: Your attention tends to shift back and forth between a few specific areas, and you tend to
focus heavily on one area at a time.

Merry-go-round: Various areas of your life come into focus and get your attention in a regular cycle,
maintaining a more or less even “flow.”

Climbing Gym: You work your way through life giving attention to whatever happens to come up
next.

Multi-Play Area: You choose what you want to focus on based on what’s most interesting to you at
the moment.

Sports Field: You tend to focus on what your family or peer group is focusing on.

My approach to creating balance most resembles:

How do you feel about your chosen approach to balance?

How is your chosen approach working for you?

Which of the other approaches to balance interest or intrigue you?

Action Step #2: Role Models

Having a list of role models who inspire you is a great way to get and stay on track when you’re
making big life changes. Anytime you get stuck, you can just ask yourself, “What would my role
models do?”

Name 3 role models (real or fictional) who can be your inspiration for creating a balanced life that
aligns with your values and priorities. Under each name, list the attributes, choices or other actions

Action Step #3: Teaching Balance

Living in balance is easier (and more fun!) when those around you are doing it, too. And one of the
best ways to really become something yourself is to teach it to others. Doing this not only helps
others, but creates expectations and accountability for yourself, as well. You can do this directly, by
sharing what you’ve learned, or indirectly, by being a role model for others.

Make a list of those with whom it is important for you to share the new concepts, skills and strategies
that you’ve learned for living in balance:

What can you do to share what you’ve learned with those most important to you?

Indirectly:

How would doing this help you maintain your own commitment to living in balance?

What would change for you if everyone around you (friends, family, colleagues, etc) were living in
balance and in alignment with their own values and priorities?

What would be possible for you (and them) if this were true?
