for WD POLICY MAKERS AND GENERAL MANAGERS

Rationale
Safety must be the concern of everybody. Yet this important aspect of the operation and maintenance of a water utility is often neglected or considered a low priority item among the functions of water district management. This in spite of the fact that accidents can prove costly in terms of lost operational time, damage to property, and legal suits and indemnities, to name a few. Correct safety planning and practices are indispensable to the success of a water districts services to its consumers. Accidents indicate an irregularity in operations that result in lost time and wasted resources. They cause temporary or permanent loss of experienced and valuable staff. On the other hand, careful attention to safety by means of physical, procedural and educational means raises the morale of the working force and increases the efficiency, productivity and ultimately the profitability of the water district. Managers, supervisors and the person on the job all have a role to play in bringing about safe working conditions, safe work habits, and enforcement of safe rules. This seminar is intended for all water district personnel who will have a hand in either drawing up a safety program; implementing, fostering and monitoring safety rules and attitudes; and practicing safety habits in the workplace.
