SUBJECT : Call for Papers for the 42nd National Industrial Safety Convention

Dear Sir/ Madam:

The Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc. (SOPI) has been spearheading for 50 years
the nationwide observance of the different aspect of safety to sustain interest and awareness
of its importance in all levels and sectors of our society. The Industrial Safety Division and
the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) of the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE) are organizing an extensive safety awareness campaign to minimize the loss of
human lives and property, in observance of the annual Industrial Safety Month in October
2009.

The month-long campaign envisions the use of the print and broadcast media as well as non-
traditional media for information dissemination. A series of crowd-drawing activities
planned to heighten public safety awareness on the following events starting with the 18th
National Industrial and Commercial First Aid & CPR Team Competition on October 3, 2009;
2009 Industrial Safety Awards for companies without loss time; 2009 Search for Outstanding
Safety Professionals; and the Safety Poster and Safety Slogan Contest. Culmination of these
activities will be held during the 42nd National Industrial Safety Convention on October
28-30, 2009 at the Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Thinking of safety integration right from design stage, the convention with its theme
“Strength, Strategies and Challenges of the New Safety Dimension” aims to bring together
safety experts on occupational safety and health to discuss with and impart to the
participants’ current international industrial safety issues. This interaction will hopefully
generate workable ideas, which can be translated into action plans by both government and
the private sector participants to further propel our country’s continuing economic progress.

In this regard, we invite you to submit an abstract paper on the attached safety topics for
presentation at the 42nd National Industrial Safety Convention. All submitted abstracts (of
about 200 words) should provide sufficient information to allow assessment of the scope and
contents of the paper, Title, Author’s Name(s) & Biological Data of the Speaker Organization/
Company, Address, Contact Numbers and E-mail. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is on
August 15, 2009. All abstracts received by the date will be reviewed and checked for
inclusion by the Technical Committee and Authors will be notified of the result of the review
by August 30, 2009.

With assurance of our highest esteem and respect, we thank you most sincerely.

Very truly yours,

EROS G. ZUÑIGA, CSC

National President
