Fall is the season that many

bikers' enjoy in this region. We begin to see the cooler temperatures, lots of sunshine, of course, and more vivid colors due to the leaves changing. I know that many of you will be heading up to Cloudcroft and Ruidoso to witness the beauty of this new season. Some of you have asked what autumn is expected to be like here in El Paso and Las Cruces and even throughout the country as some of you are planning fall road trips. Below is the 3 month forecast released by the Climate Prediction Center for October, November and December, 2013.

Planning on a Big Ride for Autumn?

Weather 101

You will notice (from the top graphic) that temperatures are expected to be above normal for El Paso, Las Cruces and all of the southwest. The above normal temperatures extend up the Pacific coast.

By: Doppler Dave Speelman

Precipitation is expected be more difficult to predict. The computer models are indicating "EC" for most of the country which stands for "equal chance." This means that we all have an equal chance to see above, below or normal precipitation. Perhaps portions of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming are in a better position to get more. One other note - as of late September, we are approaching 4.0" of rain for the month. We are almost 2.5" above normal for September and only one quarter of an inch below normal for the entire year! Hopefully we'll exceed the normal for the year shortly.

A. 2nd and 3rd week of October B. Last Week of October, first week in November

When is the best time to see the leaves changing colors in Cloudcroft and Ruidoso?

row throughout our conversation. It could be his military training or simply just that hes the kind of guy that speaks matter-of-factly and to the point. His voice becomes more somber when I asked about the name of his club. "It refers to all those soldiers that have been forgotten, either out in the field or when they return to the States. Alot of veterans don't need someone to say thank you, but just to remember the people that might not have been able to come home to shake someone's hand. We want to make the public aware of what soldiers do for the US." The Renegades are a relatively new club, a little over a year in existence, that is veteran-centered and look out for veteran's issues. This run was to benefit specifically a program called Outward Bound that assists people in recovering from a variety of psychological issues by using the backdrop of the Colorado Rockies to have their clients escape their reality and go through a variety of motivational experiences that can begin a healing process. Clients may go white-water rafting or hiking and camping as part of their recovery program. The aim is that through team-building and getting out into nature with a team of similarly experienced people in a non-violent environment, the clients can begin to open up and heal from their experiences. One of their departments specifically handles wartime veterans, many of whom, because of their service overseas, will have the effects of PostTraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Outward Bound can take the soldiers and do something that can begin to erase the negative that we go through over there and re-create and re-direct the teamwork that the Army taught us in the first place. It costs about $2000 to fully sponsor a soldier on one of these trips and Outward Bound will be matching whatever we raise today. The program also combines wilderness adventures with classroom education and group meetings to further aid the soldier and other clients with their recovery. When asked to describe either his or a friends story with PTSD, he offers Sgt. Shaws experiences. She was his leader in his Army group in Iraq. He described her as 27 years old, but her experiences belie her age. We did multiple deployments together. She was a strong leader. Received two Purple Hearts, been shot a couple of times. Seen and done some incredible things. But she had to battle alcohol when she came back because her feelings were that no-one would listen and nobody would understand. The problem is, when we get out of the military, the PTSD does not stop. You still need people to talk to who actually understand the struggles and experiences that youve been through. He was happy to report that she has since become much better and was actually in attendance to the ride.

Forgotten Renegades

I Am My Brothers Guardian:

President Stifler, though young himself, has a very clear vision of how he wants his members to conduct themselves both while wearing the patch and in their own lives. Every person in my club has a job to do, from my Sgt. at Arms who watches my back and that of the club, etc. Every person is expected to do their part. The ladies in our club are our biggest backbone. They are all strong, independent women and they love to ride with us and support us. Members are watched that they may party as part of the celebration, alcoholism and drug use are strictly forbidden. Alcohol is never a solution. He described how his club and all members are involved at Holiday Retirement, an independent living home where many veterans are living. We gave a 96 year old lady a bike ride! There are people in there that were in World War II. Weve had lunch there with the people there. It was just a real good time had by all. They loved having us there, veterans from every branch and every rank. He described a special patch members wear on their vests featuring a soldier carrying another out of danger. You can watch your friends back when theyre struggling. When your brother is down, can you lend him the money? When hes sick, can you bring him soup? Thats what my clubs about; picking up the lowest man and bringing him up to equal level. For more information: Holiday Retirement Home is located on 1941 Saul Kleinfeld. Starting in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger, and continuing in 2012 with Marvel's The Avengers "Assemble Your Freedom" contest and recently with Marvel's Iron Man 3 "Man & Machine" contest, the collaboration between Harley-Davidson and Marvel has successfully connected these two powerful and inspirational brands. "Captain America makes the perfect marketing partner for Harley-Davidson as he truly embodies the iconic, heroic, and American aspects of our brand," said Bernacchi. "Both Captain America and our motorcycles are great symbols of freedom."

"Captain America and Harley-Davidson have had a long and glorious association dating back to the introduction of the character in 1939," said Dino Bernacchi, Harley-Davidson Marketing Communication Director. "He's ridden different Harleys throughout the history of the character, and his bike for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" needed to fit the modern day setting of this story. Our newest model, the Softail Breakout, with custom touches that personalize the bike for his character was the perfect choice for this film."

Several celebrities, including actresses Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer; Hollywood director F. Gary Gray; and UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, joined the fun.

Sixteen-year-old Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) member Parker Anderson, from Appleton, Wis., had the special honor to wear the Freedom Jacket during the parade. The Freedom Jacket is a single black leather jacket that has been passed from rider to rider across 11 countries and six continents over the past year as part of Harley-Davidsons 110th Anniversary. Those who have worn the jacket share passion for freedom, self-expression and adventure. After the conclusion of the 110th Anniversary celebration, the jacket will be on display in the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

The parade route took participants nearly five miles from Miller Park to the Summerfest Grounds via Wisconsin Avenue, clocking in more than 32,000 collective miles, the equivalent of five round-trip journeys from New York to Los Angeles. Along the way, tens of thousands of local residents greeted and cheered on the parading motorcyclists.

profit foundation does monthly fundraisers. They regularly receive merchandise from Barnett that they can either sell or raffle off. The hope is that they can expand much farther than El Paso and be able to help out many more people. She estimates that they've helped out 8 families so far this year. "We need to get the word out as much as possible so that when something happens, we are contacted and we may be able to step in and do something to help." Fernie, president of the Valley Boys, was excited that the run was getting much more participation from the public than in earlier years. "I believe that people are finding out that this foundation helps those in the biker community. It's to help the families after the tragedies of these accidents." Martha Dickerson volunteers her time to the run and the foundation. She explained that her husband had lost his battle with pancreatic cancer three years ago. The bike, she says, was the only way he could feel free. On the bike, he could not feel the pain, couldnt feel the illness. The bike made him feel like he could live. Though he lost his life not because of an accident, Martha explained that she completely understood why the motorcycle is so important to the bikers. What better way to

She explained how she began the foundation in memory of her brother Alfonso Ortegon, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2010. The foundation helps the families of riders who are injured or killed while riding a motorcycle. "We helped out a kid in Carlsbad after his accident to get a shower chair while he was in recovery. We were also able to pay the family's electricity bills that month. We helped out another family by providing the food for a reception after the funeral after he died in a motorcycle accident." How Motorcycle Accessories Have Changed Lady Bikers

As more women are taking to the road, motorcycle accessory companies have started to take them more seriously, and have realized that they are as valid a customer as any man. It is a sign of how seriously they take the new market, that they have started to design accessories which have women as the main focus. Accessory companies have been making different sizes available for quite a while; but now other things are starting to appear to improve riding conditions, and safety, for women. Below are a few things that show that change is taking place. When my wife bought her first helmet, we shopped around for days, visiting a lot of motorcycle accessory outlets. Eventually, she bought one that was not her ideal, but it suited her purpose. Now, if she wants a helmet, she is as spoiled for choice as me; in fact, she has more choice. As well as the colors and designs that have appeared for women, they also have helmets that will help them keep their hair neat and presentable. I don't remember ponytailed men having the option of a helmet to accommodate their hairstyle, but this shows you the power that female motorcyclists now wield. The change in design to fit the female head has made life safer for women, as well as more comfortable. This is an area that the improvement for women was long overdue, but has finally been addressed. Badly fitting, uncomfortable protection is a very bad idea. Lots of bikers have bought such items, only for them to be forgotten in a cupboard, and women were especially prone to forgetfulness because of their body shape. Simply buying a small size was never going to work, and the shapes of protective vests and back protection have had to change. Shorter, tapered versions are now available, and afford much better protection and comfort. Body Armour Helmets

even mean that men who wanted to have a motorcycle in the past, will now be allowed to. If their partner sees that a motorcycle can be as much fun for them, they may actually be the first to buy one; and more power to them if they do. Riding a motorcycle is now the domain of both sexes, and whichever sex you are; you should have access to the right accessories.

Male bikers have always been fashion conscious, even though they would disagree. Any motorcycle shop you visit will have different designs of helmets, jackets, and boots, along with bandanas, wrist straps, and sunglasses for men. Now, specific accessories are aimed at making ladies feel good while riding. If a female biker wants to look a bit more feminine, the use of Gore-tex has made that easily achievable; clothing is now available in different styles to the usual leathers, and clumpy protective wear. Tank bags and hip purses are becoming gender specific, as they are designed with different sexes' needs in mind. Whether you want something that is going to care for your hair, or will accommodate the higher heels available on women's motorcycle boots, there will be something to suit the ladies. Now that women are being catered to in the way they are, it could
