INFORMATION ABOUT THE ACLU of ARIZONA

The ACLU is a non-governmental, non-profit public interest legal organization that principally addresses is challenges to a government law, policy or practice affecting the constitutional rights - that is, the civil libe rights - of a significant number of people arising in Arizona.

Almost all of our legal work involves constitutional issues and because the United States Constitution an Constitution protect only against unlawful government action, we rarely take on disputes involving individu companies.

Generally, the ACLU of Arizona only takes on issues that can affect a large number of people directly or inv number of people or an individual that could set a precedent that would impact a significant number of pe especially interested in issues friat may break new ground in interpreting constitutional rights.

Violations of constitutional rights and civil liberties are widespread, yet the ACLU of Arizona is a small org limited resources. We receive hundreds of requests for assistance each month and have to turn down the majority of these requests. However, .not every injustice or issue of unfairness is a matter for the ACLU o we are only able to provide legal assistance in a small number of cases. Please Note:

What We Do:

The ACLU-AZ handles cases that involve violations of civil liberties and civil rights as pro Arizona and U.S. Constitutions and the Bill of Rights. Civil liberties include the right to due proc protection of the law, freedom of expression; freedom of the press; religious freedom; the right of as right of privacy; the right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures; and the right to be fre unusual punishment.
