INDICATION DOSAGE / ROUTE


Acute bronchitis 125mg/ml 3ml, 2x a day

ACTION
Macrolide antibiotic that acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptibl e organisms , thus interfering with or inhibiting microbial protein synthesis

CONTRAINDICATION
-Hyper sensitivity to clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or erythromycin -clients taking pimozide -use with ranitidine bismuth citrate in those with history of porphyria

ADVERSE REACTION
-Diarrhea/ loose stool - abdominal pain -N&V -dyspepsia -abnormal taste - headache

NURSING CONSIDERATONS

-usual dose for children is 15 mg/kg/day divided q12 for 10 days. Use the following guidelines : 9kg: 62.5 mg q 12 hr; 17kg: 125 mg q 12 hr; 25 kg: 187.5 mg q 12 hr; 33 kg: 250 mg q 12 hr -tablets and granules may be given with or without food; both tablets and suspensions can be given with milk

NURSING CONSIDERA TONS

Stimulates collagen formation and tissue repair, involved in oxidationreductions reaction.

Stress proper nutritional habits to prevent recurrence of deficiency. Inform pt. that vit. C is readily absorbed from citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes and leafy vegetables.

INDICATIO N
Treatment of COPD (including bronchospasm s) in those who are on regular aerosol bronchodilator therapy and who are require a second bronchodilator

DOSAGE / ROUTE
2 inhalations for 6 hours not to exceed 12 inhalations/ 24hours (nebulization)

History of sensitivity to soy lecithin or relayed food products, such as soy beans and peanuts. Most common: bronchitis, URTI, headache, pain, dyspnea, coughing, nausea, paryngitis, sinusitis.

NURSING CONSIDERA TONS


Use as directed: do not increase dose or frequency of administration unless specifically directed Administer via nebulizer connected to an air compressor with an adequate air flow, equipped with mouthpiece or suitable face mask. Do back tapping after every nebulization Assess breath sounds,triggers. Monitor CXR. Stop bronchotheraphy if bronchospasm worsens.

An anticholinergic drug that acts to inhibit the effect of acethylcholin e following vagal nerve stimulation. This results in bronchodilati on which is primary a local , sitespecific effect.
