Thesis Statement: Definition of Terms Informal Settler/Squatter - a person who settles on land or occupies property without title, right, or payment of rent. -A "squatter" (in The Concise Oxford Dictionary) is a person who settles on new especially public land without title; a person who takes unauthorized possession of unoccupied premises 1. Kinds of Squatters 1. The really poor ones, mostly immigrants from provinces who tests their faith in the city, or other long time squatters who do not have enough income everyday, to give their families. 2. The professional squatters are those who make squatting their means of livelihood. 3. The syndicate squatters. There is a syndicate behind every squatter colony. I. A. They always thought that living in a city is always better even if they only have blue-collared jobs, like carpentry, driving, barking etc., than farming in their provinces. The Philippine government plans to move about 100,000 squatters from their homes on crucial waterways in Manila by June 2013 as a flood control measure and for their own safety. In recent months, squatter communities have violently resisted relocation efforts but Francisco said those on the waterways realized they had to move.

Informal settlers vacate San Juan river homes- Aug. 5, 2013: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said a total of 87 families had already moved in to their new homes in San Jose del Monte Heights as of August 6, 2013. c. The relocation of informal settler families from Metro Manilas waterways will start at the San Juan River and Tullahan River and will cover families in San Juan, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon and Valenzuela, according to DSWD.
